That new Mesa 2x12 half back. What's the consensus?

Oh shit!!!! Congrats!

I’ve had a suspicion for a while that my disdain for open back has more to do with the physics of a small combo vs an actual proper open cab (which I have no experience with)
Yeah I fretted over it quite a bit as of late but definitely was pleasantly surprised :satan

I couldn't resist. The expectations and conventions of being a studio rat guitar player required I order one of these to go with the Mark VII. Mesa will match the smoother black taurus vinyl and tan corners of my amp, but won't do a matching wicker grille. I don't mind at all. It'll sound great and make mic placement that much simpler since I'll clearly see the speaker cone.

I've always thought the C90s sound clear and open, with a solid amount of upper midrange and HF detail, not too thick in the lower mids. So they're among my favorites, especially relatively clean (I always have a little grit going, however). I see here they're a little controversial, but that's usually a style-of-play choice, as opposed to a speaker being somehow better or worse than a different one.

I've been using my Lone Star 212 combo with the C90s with the Mark VII, and it's a great speaker for the amp, given what I play (mostly 'edge of clean-to-breakup').

i think youre gonna love that cab! i think itd be even better with an evm in the bottom portion, or in both.. but
nobody wants to move that

ive come to appreciate c90s for what they do as well. i hated them for a long time- but i also hated evms and now theyre in two, sometimes three of my cabinets.
:facepalm

meantime- if you really want a trick on a halfback- take a 414 set in omni out about 4-5' into the room set around the midpoint of the cabinet in height. half times that and a fig 8 ribbon on the top about 6" out was all id use for anything. last recording i did, that and the sound of my 10x14 music room was it with a little eq on the mark ii!

Great cabs. I'm still LOVING my cab with all of my amps. It can do brutal as well as clean quite nicely. I also dig the C90 in my EVH 112 cab. It's definitely a different vibe that you have to adjust to but great across the board for me.

Holy fucking fuck this cab fucking smokes :guinessAll my bullshit about "oh it's open back what if it's a wussy machine" were instantly curb stomped. Good lord #fapmoji

hahaha... thats what i kept sayin mang! i just love the fact i can always ALWAYS hear wherever i stand. its not open back that jacks up chonk- but a little open back cab is just gonna little open back cab off mic. that cabs pretty biggish... and albeit my version is the combo/thiele these days- its close enough for volume levels i can get away with these days. :D stoked youre stoked!

That's great to hear! Makes me even more confident that I made a good choice.

I know it'll be a 3-4 month wait, but I'm stoked about it anyway. I'm thinking I won't need two V30 2x12 cabs, and may sell one of them when this thing arrives.
