TGF Official Amp Mesa Boogie Mark series. Join the fun and get one today!

I read an unsubstantiated but not hard to believe rumor that Mike B is hanging it up once he clears his current backlog. That will truly be the end of an era.

TBH I’m actually a bit surprised by how many of the key players stayed after Randall’s contentious exit.

ya know- ive had my iib for ten years, and having finally done all the legwork to figure the best sounds i can get outa the lead channel- i recently got a bogner wessex.

much as i do enjoy the iib dirty, setting my amp up for a well balanced clean tone at humane levels with the wessex, im back in the same place i always get to with all my mesas: in just dont prefer the dirt on em to a good overdrive into a clean front end.

fortunately- the iib is SUPER good at being The Tiny Twin.

i dont really think its a deficiency of the amp- i think a 1981 mark was a colossal volume weapon, and the preamp is geared to play at outrageous volumes i can't currently use- so its not really any complaint.. but yeah.. this is the third time i just went straight clean channel in a mesa from the 80s.

My Mark III and Studio Pre both make fantastic pedal platforms. I actually prefer them for that over my Princeton or Deluxe. Nothing wrong with using dirt pedals.

i dont feel too bad about it cause you could do way worse than a iib for great cleans... but the gain structure of the amp's lead channel doesnt really let you modulate as easily into midgain sounds at the guitar at home practice levels. it wasnt designed for that anyhow.

the upshot is, man does that wessex sound good driving the snot out of that clean channel :D

I... did a thing

Well, thoughts? Bet the new tribute rips through that thing

All of the Mark series are GOAT’d but the he Mark V is truly an innovative and feature packed masterpiece. I have a III, IV, and V (and a crab Marcus clone lol) and love them all but if there was a gun to my head and I could only have one it would be the V

Still getting acquainted with all the settings but it sounds massive and I currently just going through a 1x12 V30 PRS MT cab.

I have it in the Mark IV right now and I can confirm the LP tribute indeed rips through this thang:

Bad ass!
:headbang
That's only a 60 watt cab. Be careful. :beer

Man, I bet those cats felt an huge sense of loyalty to the legacy of the brand they had a massive hand in creating,
and not necessarily to the new owners of the brand. :idk

There's a video from Randall (you may have seen!) where he is on vacation with the old guard, and you can
tell there are many things they can't talk about that they are just itching to unload.

Some day.

So many usable tones - The Fractal stuff really trained me in how to tweak mesa's so its all very familiar territory but its nice seeing what all the little switches and knobs and interactions do.

Now I'm on the hunt for a 2x12 Mesa cab - or should I just go for a 4x12?

My latest test (pardon the butchered/slowed down periphery riff on the wrong tuning)

1. Sounds great!
2. Semi-open 2x12 cab crew, checking in :satan

That sounds really good. If I was recording it I could tweak that sound to fit in a mix really easily. That’s one thing I really like about Marks and Rectos, I can always find a place in the mix for them.
