TGF Official Amp Mesa Boogie Mark series. Join the fun and get one today!

So I’m 99.9% picking up this Mark III tomorrow (what kind of music store is closed on Sundays?!). Looks pretty clean. Any thing I should look out for?

I’m going to follow @spawnofthesith lead and run the HX Stomp Graphic EQ in the loop. Stoked to finally have a Mesa with 6L6s!
You have the 5 band on the amp. Unless I am missing something? Congrats on this :love Prepare to peel some paint! :satan

Hell yeah!! I’ve been watching them steadily drop the price on that, at $1k it’s a no brainer

Mine is also a purple stripe :love

That one looked pretty dang clean from the photos and the fact that it’s EVM loaded is also a win

This one is the 60watt reverb without GEQ. For this price I’m willing to go without plus I get to add that EV speaker to mix!

you can absolutely make it work without the eq. its not gonna get you super modern metal sounds- but i think nobody buys a iii for that anyhow. theres a fully decked one here thats been sitting for months at $2100 and i still look at it periodically :D so thats a screamin deal.

The only way you can go wrong with a Mark III is not owning a Mark III.

Because the Mark III is getting some love tracking EP guitars, that thing is like roped off with murder tape and I’ve been missing the Mesa around this place.

Turns out the SD18 makes a pretty respectable stand in with the Studio Preamp feeding its effects return for now.

I can get everything from crystal clean, to cranked Princeton, saturated black panel, and of course all the amazing Mark lead and high gain tones. Even the reverb is kind of impressive for certain sounds.

Then I plugged in a 335 and it’s lush fat lead tones with controlled feedback at living room volume, or master of puppets. It’s all right there.

Youd be surprised…. Many agree that the III is one of the most pissed off and aggressive of the whole lot…. (Or at least can be dialed in to be that way)

oh i wouldnt be, really- even my iib gets pretty chonky if i want it to- but i still think even given that... i mean.. FIRST choice? id think ivs and beyond would be sorta more in that vein more than a 60watt eq-free mesa- but anydamn thing is possible! id rock one for anything else

For the tight brutal heavies, I’m pretty firm the III is king, even over the IIC+. When you really wind them up they’re absolutely rude, borderline unhinged, but the tone and feel is addicting.

I have a IV too, and it’s amazing but the two main “issues” with it is that, a. It really needs to be loud af to sound its best even by live standards. and b. I feel like it’s the most finicky of the bunch, at least from my sample selection of a III-V (I also had a fully loaded red stripe III in the past as well)

Also As far as “finickiness” goes… I also almost consider the fact that my current III doesn’t have the GEQ to be a boon , I’m a lot less likely to try and menu dive to mess with my established settings on the HX Mesa geq than if it had one on board :rofl

fwiw i just went upstairs to just do stupid things with gain on my iib, and i was cackling just chugging along. i always forget about the treble shift and what it does, cause i always keep it off to avoid the mesa-gain-thing. but DAMN its fun if thats the sound you want  lots of silly metal to be had

ya know- even beyond that though- the bass pull and second rhythm and on loaded ones 15 (or 25 watt) mode are kinda game enders. the thing does basically anything id need at that point from soup to nuts provided you know what youre doing. if i found one minus eq cheap, id buy it too, likely from somebody who found it too confusing!

Now I’m really excited! Hopefully nobody swoops it up on reverb before lunch time tomorrow 😂

If you call gravity music gear when they open in the morning they will hold it for you for the length of a day. They’re pretty cool to deal with and I’ve scored a lot of deals there. They also typically have a much better offer than say GC if selling used gear. Still a reaming but slightly less bad

I've only had a half or so to play but wow, this amp is just unbridled fury. My Mark V:25 is straight up polite next to this thing.

It smells like tubes cooking in here!

After jumping through the R1 and R2 channels fairly quickly, it took me 10 minutes or so to figure out how to get that lead channel into that liquid high gain territory and it just sounds beautiful and is loud as hell.

Then I plugged into my mini recto/thiele cab pair...

I haven't even messed with an EQ in the loop yet :D - actually sounds killer without it, but looking forward to messing with it more. The push pull knobs are fun - there will be lots of tones to explore here. Reverb sounds pretty nice too!
