Don't knock it! I loved the tones I got out of the Bogner Goldfinger 45 SL with 4x 6V6.

But realistically it's not like Mark V needs power reduction from 6V6 tubes.

Huh? I am confused. The Goldfinger 45 is designed to run 6V6s. The Mark V is not. HUGE difference.

I’m not an authority but have read of some folks having run 6V6 with the variac engaged without issue. I believe tweed power also brings voltages into a safe range.

I’d probably confirm with Mesa.

is the v getting the dreaded 'loop-itis'?

i've jumpered my two other mesas loops cause the jacks go squirrelly and intermittent.

OH.. and being a broken record, man, i cannot recommend putting a passive attenuator in the loop enough! even if you just knock a few dbs off its the difference between a enough power to sponge the amp up a bit and let it breathe and just being way too loud on 2.

I've had over a dozen mesa amps and have never exerienced this. Your comment here is the first I've heard of this loop itis.

thats funny- ive had three and two had the plastic jacks (both were calibers) in the loop fail. one, a tech jumpered out, the second, i put a cable through and left it because i dont use mine really anyhow.

but ive run into a lotta people where they think power tubes are going... the amp gets fritzy, and the whole signal goes out... for whatever reason, if you jumper in to out- it stops happening.

my mark ii is 43, and its loop has never fritzed in its time with me- but i think those are regular metal jacks!

Yes, just make sure the impedances match. E.g 8 ohm cab + 8 ohm loadbox, use the 4 ohm jacks.

The cab is 16ohm. I meant the second jack on the cab, I read that you can use that for another cabinet. That makes me think it sends the same load in two different paths at that point, one to the orange cab and one to my loadbox.

You'll need to find if it's series or parallel. Likely parallel since it's already 16 ohms. So it would be best to use a 16 ohm loadbox (or one that can be set to 16 ohms) for a total impedance of 8 ohms.

Fyi Suhr is 8ohm and not switchable (at least the non IR on)

What are you trying to achieve by having both a live cab AND reactive load active at the same time?

If you plan to always have your cab active, there are other cheaper devices you can insert between the head and cab to send a signal to your DAW.

Your Mesa might also have a slave out, which would give you a post power amp feed from your amp as well.

Unless you are looking for silent recording, the Suhr will do nothing for you. It's only available as 8 ohm.

You could just run the Slave out to your audio interface line input. The Slave out is already tapped from the speaker out, so it includes the sound of the poweramp. This still needs a speaker load connected but would be the easiest way to do run it into cab sims.

I already do silent recording with the 8ohm loadbox I have now - I’ve been running my mark into that for the last couple months with no cab. I can swap back and forth but it would be nice if I could do both at the same time or be able to do one or the other without any cable configuring. If you want both a cab and DI, again just use the Slave out. This will give you exactly the same result as running a loadbox without built-in IR loading into an audio interface.

The Torpedo Captor is honestly stretching the definition of a reactive load, meaning it's barely one and does not replicate any real speaker impedance curve.

I was in love with my Mark just using it with IRs, but today has shown me the way. HOLY SHIT . Maybe the open back (which is like 2/3 closed) in my room works nicely, because I’m questioning whether I really want to or need to make it convertible (curiosity will kill that cat eventually).

That must sound absolutely crushing - I'd leave that partial open back as is as I'm sure that helps it all breathe a little bit without sound too open.
