I was thinking if they're purely preamp modules and can be powered independently then pairing it with the wampler pedalhead could be a pretty killer combo. Just not sure if you need the synergy module as well to power them or if I'm missing something about the setup.

You need a host like syn1/2 to make it a preamp or the amp syn20/50

It'll want a power amp or PA emulation and is great for recording.
The messed part is, and I knew that was gonna happen. That even though I decided I'll only do 4 modules max I'm at 10.

If I get the housing unit I know getting 10 modules is an inevitability as well :rofl

Does anyone know if theres any real drawback on the SYN-1 vs the 20-IR. The SYN-1 is pretty nifty for a desktop unit.

I have a SYN1 for my Synergy modules and I'm sticking with that for the moment.

You can run that in 4CM with a tube amp and add more channels to the tube amp if you need a cab blasting in the room.

If you're just recording in the DAW, then you can route the SYN1 into your audio interface and use a poweramp emulation plugin / profile.

For me, the best way to describe the sound of the Deliverance is Steve Vai’s Eat em and Smile tone. Quite dry and dynamic and lower mid focused.
It doesn’t have a ton of gain (depending on how you set up) so I like to boost the front of it with a Wampler Tumnus Deluxe.

Awesome to hear!

The only reason i'd run it through an amp/poweramp --> loadbox would be if theres some major sonic advantage. If it's all pretty similar just DI out of the modules into the interface then thats even easier / one less thing in the chain.

I still like the idea of synergy --> wampler pedalhead --> cabs for an in room solution (not really recording).

I have a Syn-2. It makes more sense to me than the Syn-1. Yeah, I am up to 9 high gain modules, lol.

I have made and posted several Synergy + Mesa 2:90 tone models on ToneNet.

For a big high gain metal sound, I would actually say a big poweramp is more important than the preamp, as long as the preamp has the gain available.

Honestly, I like separating them from the power amp so I can mix and match power sections for each module. (Analog or digital) In that regard a SYN-1 or SYN-2 is perfect.

You can build a super comprehensive digital backend for them in FAS-land, which is dope. I spent an hour one afternoon building custom Tube-Pre’s of like a dozen amp power sections on the AxeFx so I could pair the modules with specific PA’s. Really cool stuff.

I am not really familiar with the Synergy ecosystem. If I didn't want the integrated tube power amp of the SYN-20IR, could I use the Synergy Marshall JCM800 w/SYN1, but connected to a powered FRFR, like my Fender FR-12? Is that the "point" of the new Zero-Watt Power Amp in the JCM800 module...to provide the "power amp" feel/dynamics/sag without the traditional tube power amp output stage?

I guess, I am confused as to what the best approach is. That is to say, is it better to just go for the full-fledged SYN-20IR, which one could still use with a FRFR (if one wished), but also has flexibility to use with a traditional Cab?
What are your thoughts?

You can do that if you enable the speaker emulation on the XLR output.
I don't think it'll sound great because I don't like the on-board frequency compensated speaker emulation on the SYN-1 but it'll work.
The thing is you'd still be missing the "feel" piece of the power section (tubes / output transformer pushing a load / cab) because I doubt the 0 watt power thingy in the module handles anything other than saturation.

Thanks for the feedback, 2Dor.

For those who own a SYN-20IR system, can you achieve very low volume playing levels, if and when desired, when connected to a guitar cab?
