Make that a single module SYN50-IR and I am sold. Again. What I don't understand is why Synergy is taking so much time to put out a dual module 50W head. It should be a no-brainer to make with the tech in the SYN20-IR slapped together with the SYN50.
I'm with you there. I haven't heard a 20 yet, and that might be all I need for my small club gigs, but at the same time, I don't want it wimpy sounding.Make that a single module SYN50-IR and I am sold. Again.
I'm sure it's more than fine but I know better than to think a 50 watt "Dual Rectifier" is going to cause some twitches in me, let alone the 20 watt versionI'm with you there. If you want to further break it down:Synergy currently list 26 modules on their website. I'd group them as follows;
Straight up Marshall
- JMP
- JCM800
- Metroplex
Marshall adjacent
- Friedman BE-BB, DS, BE-Dlx
- Ecstasy
- Killer Kali
- Vai?
- Bman
The Rest
- IICP
- Imperial
- TDLX
- OS
- DRECT
- ENGL Savage, Powerball
- Freyette Deliverance, UL
- Diezel VH4, Herbert
- Z Wreck
- SLO II
- 6505
- Uberschall
- Morgan AC
Yeah you can argue a lot of those have a bunch of Marshall DNA, but nobody buys an Uberschall to sound like AC/DC.
A Jubilee and JVM would be awesome though.
The Drect, SLO/SLOII, and 6505 should be under Marshall based. If you want to further break it down:

Straight up Fender:
- TDLX
- Bman
Fender-based:
- IICP
- Imperial
- OS
Hiwatt-based:
- Fryette Deliverance, UL
Vox-based:
- Morgan AC
Trainwreck-based:
- Z Wreck
The Rest
- DRECT
- ENGL Savage, Powerball
- Diezel VH4, Herbert
- SLO II
- 6505
- Uberschall
You could probably slap the lineage of "the rest" all under "Marshall-based" if you want.
IMO there is a helluva lot of overlap in the module lineup where owning a lot of modules and playing them through the same cab you'd probably find them to be small variations of about the same thing. Sometimes that variation can make or break it, sometimes it's too close to something you already had.
If I were to jump into the Synergy system, I'd be mostly interested in the Killer Kali, Imperial, Z-Wreck and Ultra-Lead modules for being more unique stuff. But I won't until they make a dual module unit with the SYN20-IR feature set because I know I'd just consider it an annoyance to swap the modules regularly.
The original 800 and Plexi modules as well plus the Friedman HBE, if we’re adding more Marshall-esque ones.If you want to further break it down:

It just comes down to how far down the road you want to go, e.g. JMP could be called Fender Bassman-based, and that's probably originally based on some RCA tube project manual. The SLO is based on a Mesa the Engl is well very Engl all amps are technically based on something Fendery or Marshalls but calling them either is kinda going a bit literal.
Mught as well say why are all Synergy modules Marshall or Fender based if we’re gonna be that literal.
Ok I missed Vox and Hiwatt![]()
So funny, all a SYN20ir would do for me, is add another piece of gear to carry, so I'm not even sure why I get so interested when a new module comes outI'm sure it's more than fine but I know better than to think a 50 watt "Dual Rectifier" is going to cause some twitches in me, let alone the 20 watt version![]()

Remove the handle from the top of the amp and have it double as a pedalboard! So funny, all a SYN20ir would do for me, is add another piece of gear to carry, so I'm not even sure why I get so interested when a new module comes out![]()

Not really related to Synergy directly but the SLO also differs from Marshall in having a 6L6 power stage too so another big difference. It just comes down to how far down the road you want to go, e.g. JMP could be called Fender Bassman-based, and that's probably originally based on some RCA tube project manual.
SLO is only taking from Mesa the idea of using cascading gain stages.
Mesa Mark IIC preamp is basically input stage -> Fender tonestack -> gain stages -> graphic EQ.
SLO preamp is input stages -> cold clipper (like JCM800, but different values) -> gain stage -> cathode follower (like Marshall) -> Marshall tone stack
Ultimately a lot of the building blocks are the same on all amps these days and what specific values are used where determine how it sounds, where the tonestack is placed etc.
We knew it was coming, though, since they formed the partnership w/ Marshall and discontinued the Syn 800, so not really much a let down IMHO.I was hoping for an ADA MP1 module. Yet another 800 is disappointing.
