Synergy Marshall JMP

Yeah I’ve seen that rumored for a SYN2 refresh, but I don’t know how legit it is. Would make a lot of sense though, since they’ve already done the development of the digital backend for the IRX/SYN20/X88 etc.
A Syn 2 with the IT and reactance would be killer
Honestly I would have bought the 20 if they had loaded w 6l6 or 5881

And also Paul from studio rats just once could he dial in a 💩 tone
Like honestly I would love to see his recording chain
What is the reverb and delay plug in

He's using an Axe-FX III for his effects mostly.

Maybe it’s explained in the videos, but the thing that confuses me about this is how much of the JMP sound comes from the power amp. How is that handled here?

I love the idea, but I’m having a hard time believing the magic is really in there
Surprised the other folks here did not know this but, it has a power amp emulation on board:

From Synergy:

ON-BOARD PHASE INVERTER – 0-WATT POWERAMP

Think of this as our way of fitting an entire guitar amp into a preamp module. In a traditional amplifier, the preamp section shapes the tone and provides gain, while the poweramp delivers the volume, punch, and dynamic response that make a tube amp feel alive. To authentically recreate this experience, the JMP module incorporates a “0-watt poweramp” design, complete with a phase inverter and a small transformer. This innovative approach faithfully captures the harmonic complexity and dynamic response of a cranked Marshall poweramp, delivering the rich tone and feel of a full-sized amp - all within a compact all-tube module.

This “0W” amp thing was developed for the ZWreck which is similar to the JMP in that it kind of needs a power amp to do “the thing” it’s known for... The Wreck, TK Imperial, and JMP are the modules which have used it so far. IIRC

That’s pretty slick, thanks for the info!

I’m definitely curious now

Like the all tube Rocktron Plexi, I'm guessing the Synergy JMP provides a 0W phase inverter simulating post tube stage to crush, which brings back some but not all of the magic. If going DI'd you can of course you can bring a lot of the missing magic back with impedance curve and cab/speaker IR's, or use the real deal.
Didn't someone at Synergy state that all modules going forward would have such kit in them? Fortin, Tone King, and now this?

EDIT nvm Elric already said as much.

Awesome, I didn't know about the transformer in the new Synergy's power amp sim stuff.

The Rocktron Valvesonic Plexi was the first that I remember that had a post gain stage which worked as a phase inverter sim too, they called it the "Afterburner" LOL!

I think Hughes and Kettner might have been the first with a 0W power section sim back in
the 80's?

…. there are various impedance curve IR's you can run in series with a cab IR (Redwirez had some that I used back in the day), or try mix the impedance curve and cab IR's if only one cab block.
I don’t want to add more outboard devices if I can avoid it. I wonder though, if I could load the impeadance curve IR’s into the Syn 20 ir internal ir slots and then let the VP4 handle the cab sim.

The preamp of a 2203 jmp is rather unpleasant, especially with the gain low in the high input. But get that 100w power stage pumping and it all makes sense. The tone gets full and lively.
That is where I don’t believe in Synergy.
That said I do love the X88IR which has the same „shortcoming“ so to speak. So I might be wrong.

From politoleo (works for Synergy) a TOP regarding the 0 watt power amp, specifically on the JMP module:

Everything before it, so in all modules with it, everything at full but for the master/attenuation will drive the phase inverter the most.

Absolutely cleanest setting is everything at zero (even bass middle and treble), master at full, volume as needed.

It's important to note that the 0 watt is not the same at all between modules, but each module have each amp phase inverter section!
So basically, every control but the master has an increasing effect on the power amp distortion level as well. Pretty clever!
