This seems cool for someone looking for a cheaper, smaller El Capistan style tape delay that only does Echoplex stuff.

As an El Cap V2 and Volante owner I don't see much need for this.

Sounds way way better than the El Cap is my first impression. But I have too many delays already :facepalm

Pretty cool that they modeled a new unit for this. Strymon has the virtual tape thing nailed. I like the simplicity of the mechanics implementation here too.

I really like the Ultrviolet and Cloudburst in the smaller box Strymon units - but have a Volante, Timeline and Deco II (not El Cap).

I am not a big delay girl, but like their algorithms. Friend has both El Cap and Bluesky on his board.

Maybe sometime later they will combine their tape delay and room reverb algorithms in a single pedal calling it DR-1.

That would be a dream for me. While the El Cap and Volante both allow a spring reverb so they can be used as reverb pedals too, I'd really love something that is like the El Cap delays + Flint reverb in one box, capable of running them in parallel or series. It would even fit perfectly into their current 6 knobs, two 3-way switches format if they cut out the El Cap mode switch or bury it under secondary settings.

I use the Source Audio Collider and it's a great delay/reverb box, but its tape delay just does not satisfy compared to the Strymons. The Binson Echorec models on the Nemesis would do it, but they're not available on the Collider and the Collider lacks all the Nemesis' editable parameters too.

I was fortunate as I got to listen to the reverbs on a friend's bluesky.

Their room algorithm seems kinda versatile.

That would be killer!

I loved the Helix Space Echo so I picked up a Boss RE-2. It's really underwhelming, the echos aren't nearly as 3D sounding (in stereo) and the reverb is super bland.

The Strymon stuff sounds awesome, at some point I'd love to start picking up some of their pedals.

My friend's dad has an original tape echo. He says that they are not "plug and play" delays. They were basically recording tools back in the day.

He said some aspect of their preamps is reproduced in the tape sim pedals. There are also the tape head movements to think about. It takes a while to dial in a sound which we like, unlike straight forward digital or analog delays.
