On the right is recent DS-1. Likely Taiwan. No sticker on back - got it used for like $40. Sounds “OK” (I mean DS-1 after all) but has some some high frequency fizz. I’ve had it for a couple years. Eventually annoys me and I put it away for another few months.
Last week (after watching NirvanaGuitars vids on YT) I decided what the hell will look for an old long dash Japan made DS-1. Finally found one that wasn’t stupid expensive and ordered from a Japanese vendor. Date code is Dec 1980. Pretty beat up - aka has character. Switch doesn’t work the best.
Definitely fuller and less fizzy sounding. It’s not night and day but it’s noticeable. Closer to Nirvana sound in my head then the newer version. At least that’s what I tell myself.
