Some cabinet common sense needed.

The dude who sold me my Shiva and Electra Dyne had a beat up horizontal Mesa 2x12 going for $300. New tolex and it would have been minty again. I started typing the message to buy it from him when I stopped myself because I don’t need 5 frickin’ 2x12 cabinets.

Oh, you don't *need* it? Tell that to the void in your soul screaming for a shiny new 2x12 to make life 42% more awesome!

That thing is gorgeous. Bogner cabs are typically my favorite IR's always so it's my "win the lottery" cab for sure.

Been digging around looking for a good 2x12 locally and I found a Bogner 4x12 in great shape for $750. It would be a hilariously stupid purchase for low volume home use though.

I just got a Bogner 4x12 and only had a Mesa 2x12 before that, you "can" keep it just as low volume in my opinion. But when you are able to turn it up you can move some more air!

Not for me. I play a Bogner 4x12 at low volume a lot and it’s my preferred way to play at lower volume. To me sounds fuller at the same volume as a 1x12 or 2x12.

If you think about it, most of us don't 'need' any of our gear.

If a cab is made of plywood, and it’s built well, then it isn’t better than any other cabinet made of plywood and built well. Dimensions vary and will have an effect, but everything else points to speakers and closed vs open back. There ain’t no magic there
I agree there’s no magic in plywood itself. But there’s still quite a bit that makes one cab different from another, even if both are birch ply.

Internal dimensions, panel thickness, bracing layout (if existing), porting, and how the baffle is mounted all change how the cab sound and most of all how it feels. Even two 1×12s of the same external size can sound/feel totally different just because one is lightly braced and the other is more rigid. These differences is what makes us go from “boxy” to “open” or “tight” vs. “loose” etc.

So yeah, no magic — but the small design choices stack up and make a bigger difference than people sometimes expect.

I agree, which is why I said dimensions matter, etc. All of the variables you noted come into account for sure 👍
