Some cabinet common sense needed.

The vertical Recto's orientation means I wouldn't have to bend over to dial knobs. They're really nice cabs that have always been right for something, and the one I used with my Mark V sounded great with it.

"He said bend over, dial knobs."

"I'm more into the wheels than the knobs."

"There's a wheel man in every crowd, right?"

I have one of the recent Boogie 4x10s with Creambacks I like a lot; if you wanted to explore something in an unusual direction with one or more of the amps, it's pretty cool-sounding.
Yeah vert 212 is VERY enticing

That’s a great format, I used to have a Laney diagonal 2x12 that I probably should have kept.

I actually placed an order for one last year but it was under back order, after over a month I decided to just cancel

Of course a few days later they were finally in stock but I had already allocated that gear money elsewhere

Vertical is the way.

I want to be careful about shitting on people’s favorite gear, but the sheer number of used listings and negative chatter I stumble across on the EVH 2x12 cab has pretty much sworn me off them permanently. It’s likely a speaker issue since it’s pretty hard to fuck up a wood box in 2025 but what do I know.

I’m really only interested in the following 2x12 cabs:
1. Mesa Rectifier (horizontal or vertical)
2. Orange PPC212 in black
3. Newer Marshall 1936 w/ plywood
4. Bogner 212 oversized
I love my PPC212OB but I want to convert it to a closed back, and eventually get the closed back version to compare I guess. I had the closed back version but I bought it used and it had this fuel smell to it that I could not get rid of no matter what I tried - I sold it off cuz I didn’t want to smell fuel anymore while playing lmao

You've seen the Mesa wall. Bunch of straggler cabs and an EVH.

My options for project #1:

1. Get another EVH cab and put the EV speaker in it so my eventual Mk III head will be mini stack of doom. Of course I'll remove the EVH logos. I feel like this is the cheapest option that gets me close enough to what I want.

2. Get 2 Mesa 1x12 cabs. Problem is I don't need the speakers in them because I already have a C90 in one of the EVHs. I don't need more speakers. More expensive and tbh; I am not really big on the looks of the Mesa 112s.

Sidequest:
2x12 for the Mark V. Probably something Rectifier in vertical form that fits under the Mk V.
I personally do a 4x12 with two 1x12’s for stereo wet so I like the 1x12 option the most especially if you go Boogie. I don’t see the need for two 2x12’s unless you’d think it would more match a center 2x12. Sound wise I don’t think that brings much to the table. Ymmv

I'm up to four 2x12 cabs and I still want a (modern) Mesa 2x12 cuz the old ass one I have isn't cool looking enough.

I'm kind of in agreement over the EVH 2x12 with other comments in this thread; there's aspects of it I dig but gave me concerns about having it mic'd at a show with how boomy the cab could get, how scooped it was and how bright it was and whenever I tried to tweak those areas out it'd be one of those things where it works great for one song and then, due to different tempos/actual parts, it's not workin' as well anymore.

Now with the 1960A I turn some knobs after setting everything up and don't touch the amp again until I put it back in my truck after practice and the amp is set lower in volume than it was with the 2x12.

So....buy a 4x12. And a Mesa 2x12 to put on top of it.

Sounds like the 1960 is treating you well. Any big or unexpected revelations as you’re acclimating?

I swear it doesn’t matter how many times you’ve played a good 4x12, it’s always exciting to plug into one.

Nothin' revelatory as of yet, but I've only plugged my EVH into it. I need to bring it to a vacant suite at work and plug that Ceriatone into it!!

I've heard mixed reviews of the G12T75's but they definitely work with that amp and I'd rather have more top end on tap if I need it than more low end that'll get EQ'd out anyway.

Hahahah one of the guys at the dog park used to play, enough that he has an awareness of common gear. He pulled up next to me the other day and asks "You bought that 4x12 knowing it was going to live in the back of your truck, didn't you?" YUP!!! I ordered casters for it I gotta toss on, but it's not like I'll ever plug into it in my apartment.

The Plexi is going to be a lot of fun through that cab. The kerrang with the extra thump of the 4x12 cab is addicting. You’ll fire it up, crank it, hit a power chord, and hear like half of your favorite albums. It’s such an iconic sound.

FWIW I’ve used the same 1959 through a 1960A and a 1960AV (V30) and prefer the 1960A with the 75w speakers. It is bright and can be brash, but can also sound awesome. The Les Pauls will sound monstrous. You can always swap in some greenbacks later if that ends up being more your speed.

You try the Electra Dyne with one??

Man don’t get me started. That amp is a great white buffalo situation. I’ve been on/off looking for a couple years. When I have the cash I can’t find a head. When I don’t, they’re around.

I haven’t tried one through a 1960A. I do think it would sound good though. Great amp.

Ohhhh duh, for some reason I had you confused with TubeStack, who I believe still has his ED.

Either way, I'm going to bring it with me next time I hit up a vacant space because I've yet to hear that amp cranked through a real cab and not a load box. I'm assuming the 75's are going to lend themselves to a bit of chime with that amp and hopefully eliminate some of the boomy low end.
