Say, hypothetically, you're walking down the sidewalk in your hometown. When you pass another pedestrian, do you acknowledge them or ignore them?

I am an overly friendly small towner who, when he goes to the big city, acts all weird
and friendly. So yes, I say "Hello!" and smile to people who look back at my oddly. Some
have even said, "I don;t know you!" very tersely. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But hey, I am looking for the ones who need my shiny, happy face.

Apparently, not many of them do.

I grew up in a neighborhood riddled with crime, poverty, drug use, homelessness, and gang violence. Most people would cross the street to pass each other by. I don't ignore anyone.

That's fucking beautiful.

As a kid, I had acne so bad that even adults would punish me for looking them in the eye, and my skin happened to clear up right around the time that being 5'7 3/4" became a problem, so I still feel like I'm imposing by trying. Even now, people I pass will sometimes look at me, laugh to the friend they're walking with, and say, "no" loud enough for me to hear, or look away in visible disgust, but that's life in the big city, I guess. I just want everyone to feel comfortable walking to work.

If I'm walking my dog, people usually cross the street.
They really don't have to, though. She'd love to meet them.
She's a people "person". I'm not.;)
Maybe they're crossing the street because of me.
