A while back I was asked to score an indie film. For one of the scenes, the director said, "I'm hearing Gypsy Swing in this short intro to the scene." So I worked up the Gypsy Swing piece below. Took me several days to get it just right.
I was excited to play it for the director. He said, "This isn't what I asked for." I said, "But you asked for Gypsy Swing, that's what this is." He said, "No, I meant Gypsy Swing like this," and played a slow Benny Goodman tune on his phone.
"Benny Goodman isn't Gypsy Swing," I said.
"Well, that's what I wanted when I asked for Gypsy Swing."
I nodded. "OK".
I hoped he wouldn't notice that my brain was exploding inside my head and melting my eyeballs.
I just love directors.
This never got used in the film:
