Rumor mill: John Mayer plugin coming soon?

I'm already "under the gun" with time as it is. If I have to customize a DAW just to make it not nightmare fuel before I've even recorded a lick of a riff; I'm out.

I don't want the Fisher Price of Modelers but I sure AF want the Fisher Price of DAWs. As long as deeper functionality is there; just hidden by a drawn with crayons interface :ROFLMAO:

Not me turning the advanced features in Logic off :rofl

And now I can finally start to compare the Mayer plugin against UA Paradise.

I can definitely get the Mayer vibe off the Paradise. The Mayer plugin is a lot darker/warmer out of the gate. Paradise is WAY lower output and much brighter. Adding in effects though they both have the vibe. I will say the Mayer one sounds like it's tweaked better to start with where the Paradise needs a bit of work. Of course the Paradise has WAY more stuff in it too.

Also according to Reaper, Paradise is using about 2.5% CPU compared to 4% for the Mayer plugin. Seems like Paradise is a touch lower latency too but I've got about 10 minutes in this DAW. Using fewer samples anyway.

Logic is literally the Fisher-Price of DAWs.

Ah, that's got it. The check boxes fixed the latency issue, now it's < 5 ms. I was ballparking off feel and not numbers as I don't trust those.

Okay now it's feeling like a light and efficient DAW. Super ugly and weird to use but I'll mess around with it some more.
awesome, glad to hear that sorted things!

I help out with moderating and supporting new Reaper users, on facebook groups and generally on the Reaper forum, so I've seen this a few times before where people aren't so sure or familiar with preferences etc.

Always happy to help if you have any questions, but if in doubt, watch all the Kenny videos on the Reaper website. They are gold.

This right here is dumb. And the first thing you see. I know what a razor blade is and a metronome but a sideways horseshoe? Um no. Put the transport up top where it goes. I know there are tool tips but this iconography is like hierogliphic madness when you've already spent too long "readying the recording space" as it is to then have to go in and attend junior engineer school to understand the concepts and tools at hand. I'm probably more than slightly exaggerating but I'm always going on the DAW hunt at the lowest patience points of whatever timeframe I am in and it hits me WRONG :ROFLMAO:

The thing is; every DAW has these same tools I am assuming. It's just the way it GLARES at you the minute you fire it up. Drives me NUTS.

Its also more processor efficient than any other DAW IME. You should get more instances of plugins with Reaper and it loads much faster than other DAWs I've used. I've been using it for years (switched from Cakewalk/sonar), never found it unintuitive and couldn't imagine using anything else. The forum is good and the tutorial content on YT is extensive and useful.

I finally committed to Luna. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the other DAWs but the workflow just clicks with my brain. The only thing I haven’t had time to dig into is midi editing, but it is moot for me because I use EZ Drummer’s editor.

In Reaper, everytime I wanted to do something basic, like trimming an audio clip, applying a crossfade, etc - it was literally not doing what I expected and it turned out a needed a certain alt key or change some preference. For whatever reason, Luna did the thing I wanted by default. I think that might be because they mimic a lot of the ProTools workflow and that is what I had the most experience prior to giving up on their hopeless licensing model.

It is pretty great for a free DAW. I did pick up the Pro bundle during the black friday sales and really dig the analog summing and channel strips too - the “analog” recording workflow just works for the basic stuff I do.

pahaha Sideways Horse Shoe = 'snap to grid enabled/disabled' lol
also, right clicking the transport section and choosing 'docked transport position: top of main window' ...

to be fair, I get all this and feel exactly the same with unfamiliar DAWs ... for me Cubase is the most annoying in that way.

Noooooooooooooow we're getting somewhere! I record so infrequently that it often comes along with a new computer setup to boot. Which when coupled with undiagnosed adult ADHD; it's quite a good time :ROFLMAO: Thanks Dom!

Yeah, I totally get that.
Recently got a Mac, it's taken me 3 months to get over how annoying Macs are compared to Windows (just so many tiny little fucking annoying things that have been so frustrating)....and installing everything and setting Reaper up how I wanted it etc.
Almost there now though... phew.

But, I've spent about 15 years using Reaper and although I always have the other major DAWs installed for doing what I need to do with software testing/support/dev stuff, Reaper is the most 'homely' for me and the one I use daily. It gets easier.

Not to open another portal to h#ll but I have been sort of semi-warming up to the idea of a Mac after piles of migrating Windows 10 to 11 and all associated management/updating and general just "throw my hands in the air at a certain point" tasks.

yeah, basically exactly how I felt a few months back... I got a Mac for the hardware stability, definitely not for the stupid shit that Apple want you to do.

I would happily continue with Windows if I was confident of the hardware, but then again, everything is gonna end up being 'arm' based soon and that'll take another few years of teething pains to settle down and mature... at least.

I felt like a change too, as I'd been using Windows since the mid/late 90s.

it's almost starting to feel normal using a Mac now, but I still hate mostly everything Apple.
