Ross Electronics Resurrected

Oof. That's a long one, buddy.

EDIT

Sorry, it is Mason Marangella, not O.

I like giving "laugh" reactions to 9 year old posts. Because they're still funny.

A ROSS distortion box was my first pedal. It was one of the small box versions. Sounded pretty damn good IIRC, (this was in like, 1981, lol)

I like that he's reintroducing these.

so other than nostalgia or "my guitar heroes used them on X song" is there much reason to buy one?

That’s applicable to a lot of the pedal market.

I have zero interest, but it seems very much in Josh’s wheelhouse to try to resurrect, market and manufacture a classic pedal line. That’s already a huge part of his business for many of his JHS branded offerings, minus the official licensing. (“Legends of fuzz” series, Bonsai TS, Bonsai Rat, Bonsai Muff etc)

Annnd it’s been discontinued:

Liquidation sale starts this Friday at midnight. $79 per unit.

It's an interesting video because he reveals the actual sales numbers, and also tells that other brands' legacy reissues aren't selling at the expected numbers.

I am not at all surprised, because to me the pedal world is slowly but surely moving forward. I don't see a reason to buy a Ross compressor, when I could buy a similar circuit with added extras that improve upon it. The people who want that pedal to say e.g Ross or Marshall are a niche.

There's been a better version of the Ross compressor available for almost 30 years: the Analogman Bi-Comp.

While I love having an actual Ross compressor for the nostalgia and hero worship factor, it gets zero use because it's a bit of a one trick pony and not a nicely built as the Bi-Comp.

All the remaining ROSS pedal stock go on sale this Friday 15 November 2024 for silly money as Josh is no longer resurrecting old brands.

KInda crazy how there was a surge of sales right off the bat, but those were pretty much ALL the people that wanted one, and they haven't even sold 500 pedals since. Niche indeed!
