Reverb pedals?

So, shame on me, last night realized I had Reverberator in 18 volt position. Embarrassing to say the least :facepalm
Switched Talisman to 9 volts and opened up and moved switch to bypass.
Plugged in side by side with the Reverberator.
Both at 9 volts and in the loop presently.

Even though more control with the Talisman, the Reverberator holds its own.
Both sound great.

Reverberator adds just a cut hair of brightness to the tone.
I notice with the Talisman, just a cut hair to the darker side.
Both honestly both sound great and now that Reverberator is back at 9 volts in the loop its right there with the Talisman.

Reverberator has more tonal/style options.

I think I still would like to try a Flint.

Teamed up with our bass player for the payment and am gonna pick up a mint condition Blue Sky V1 (good price, with box, PSU, etc) as a present for our drummer today, since he's also doing lots of electronic music, synths, and whatnot, and is our studio wizard.

I'll really have to hold back on giving it a spin when I get home. Shit's dangerous, I'm afraid. 😂

Welp, starting to think I will take the Talisman back to GC.

I found I like it best in front of amp, last in chain. 9 volts.
Honestly, buffered or by passed I didn't notice a difference.

However, I do not feel like it plays well with an overdrive/boost.
At least the ones that I have.
Low in mix though sounds pretty good. Definitely usable.

But...
It darkens my tone a little.
Dr. Scientist Reverberator clears/brightens my tone just a cut hair, which I like better.
Even though the Dr. Scientist doesn't have the control the Talisman has, it has so many options, plus long or short tails.
Hard to find a setting that doesnt sound good.

I really seem to prefer the Dr. Scientist Reverberator.

Always nice to have something similar to compare a new pedal to.

I own a few…I like things simple and easy to use….recently I bought and Animals Pedals “Bath Time” reverb….this one flies way under the radar….it’s an excellent “set and forget” reverb pedal.

I also like the TC Hall of Fame 2 reverb pedal….it’s very easy to get a very good general purpose reverb sound with it.

Reverb has very different flavours too that you might have a preference for. There is the “ environment “ type that really doesn’t sound like an effect but blends in the the background . I still think the old PCM units are best at this. Then you get reverb as an effect and it is in your face. TC and Eventide tend towards this.
A lot of the newer pedals can’t do a Lexicon sound of old and seem to sit on top. I include Strymon in this. The last type is a true spring reverb preferably tube buffered . The best of these is the one I linked above. Vintage fender in a way that the digital versions can’t get.
I agree on the PCM reverbs blending well with the tone.
Haven’t tried any reverb pedals but have tried a lot of popular plugins.
The Lexicon is what I use. No tweaking, just works.
I only sprinkle a little bit though.

In pedal format, I believe Digitech and UA have some budget options emulating the Lexicon sound.

Yeah, keeping the Talisman.
Played it a bunch again last night.

It just sounds so effing great sitting in front of the amp set low.

It doesn't seem to like my drive pedals, but if I'm being honest, my drive pedals are just for show and forum cred. :facepalm

Keeping Dr. Scientist Reverberator as well. Sounds great in the loop, but I think it lacks a little something in front?

My rhythm, effing around playing is 4-6 on guitar volume knob. Tone to taste.
I boost that with 7-10 on the volume knob.

Metro kit JTM45 volume set 5-6

I had the TC years ago, but felt weird holding my phone up to the pups to change the tones/styles. Something like that.
Something just felt phoney about it.

That Animals pedal could be a cool one to check out though, I love simple pedals that sound great. Do one type of thing, well.

Then you will probably enjoy the Animals’ Bath Time….FWIW…I actually run the decay on full…sounds wonderfully wet and delicious without getting all spacey.

One thing I have not done yet is switch it from buffered to true bypass.

Is there one way or the other (buffered or bypassed) that is generally better/common for in front of the amp?

I always recommend this page about pedal buffers and impedance for anyone who isn't sure.
Very important knowledge when running stomps in front of the amp.

If I had the Talisman, I'd be running it after the amp in a live playing setting (dummy load, line out "fx loop", power amp, speaker)... but that's me.

Generally speaking, time based effects don't play well with clipping/distortion in front of the amp.

Maybe with your multiple pedals in front, the buffer on the Talisman or your other pedals' buffers don't play nice together, or some combination therein.

Ill have to check my Polytune, I can't remember if I have it set buffered or bypassed?

Only other pedals before it are my Mythical OD and SD-1.

Dr. Scientist sounds great in loop, Ill try again with Talisman, buffered and bypassed.

At home, playing alone, the Talisman sounds great in front.
I guess that's why I stopped getting down on the floor, taking tiny screws off the back of the pedal.

This is why I try to stay away from pedals that cant do everything they promise out in front or on top.
Even the Wampler Tumnus Ge had a buffer button on the outside of the pedal.

You know, I still have to get back off the ground, haha.

What does the Talisman sound like as the only pedal out front between your guitar and amp?

Pretty sweet.
Low in the mix.
Does well enough with amp gain that I don't hear anything I don't like.
JTM45 at 7 on volume probably isn't the gainiest machine out there.
Doesn't sound good with drive pedals before it though...

Both BOSS drive pedals, right?

BOSS typically have their own buffers (and they're not particularly good buffers, but work).

What about this signal chain:

1x BOSS drive pedal
|
Talisman (buffer off)
|
Amp

?

I had a Talisman and never had any issue with it in front of the amp, or feeding dirt
and drive into it. It's designed to do that well. :idk
