Removing Backs Off 4 X 12” Orange Cabinets Help ?

Earlier today before my Orange Black PPC 412 cab gets stacked this weekend .
I thought I would have the back off and take a look at the Celestion 12” V 30s inside as it was bought pre loved and I’ve not had a look inside before.
A 15 minute job took a hour and a half and I’m going to have to drill the remaining six screws out because they ain’t shifting.
Unless anyone has any other ideas on how to get em out ?

What’s the problem? If the heads are stripped, spit on the head of your screwdriver, dip it in sand, get it nice and sandy, then apply a fuck ton of pressure and slowly loosen while trying to maintain friction. This worked on helicopter screws whenever some idiot private would strip a screw and I HATED calling sheet metal to come drill it out, so I learned that method.

If it’s just not giving whatsoever, get a socket wrench with a Phillips bit apply a fuck ton of pressure and leverage the socket wrench for strength.

Worst case scenario a screw extractor.

Six screws still in One ain’t going to pull the back off .
I was also thinking of changing from the Jack socket .

oof. not sure why theyd be so stuck unless they put em in whule the glue was still setting on the tolex, which is kinda what it looks like.

ive used channel locks as screw extractors by locking them on sideways and twisting- just make sure its good and tight.

regardless, when youre done, id swap every single back screw out for a course thread philips and a new trim washer.

Just get an impact driver, but make sure you hold the tip down into the screw head extremely firmly before you pull the trigger. Unless you've already boogered up the heads trying to get them out. And make sure to use a new tip that fits into the screw correctly. There are #1, 2, & 3. They're probably #2 (most common.)

Yeah those screws have some shit on the threads. Almost looks like corrosion- not good if so, for what's inside, possibly.

If it is corrosion, maybe some PB Blaster...?

Not being of any help here but wondering how there could be such badly impacted screws in a pristine cab.
Now, the screws in my Orange 4x12 looked awfully similar - but the cab did as well.

To remove a stubborn back (after you're done with the screws):
1. Unscrew the jack plate and remove the either the quick disconnects or the jacks themselves (take photos, don't lose the nuts).
2. Grab the opening where the jack plate was with your hand and tug the back off.

Not being of any help here but wondering how there could be such badly impacted screws in a pristine cab.
Now, the screws in my Orange 4x12 looked awfully similar - but the cab did as well.

I’ll have a look at the screws on the other one I bought new from GAK a few years ago .
I’ve got a screw remover coming tomorrow but not holding out much hope of that working.
I can drill the heads off the old screws in seconds but will give it ago.

Thanks for the advice but I’ve got 14 various makes and size of speaker cabs and know how to get a back off.

Obviously they didn’t work.
No sand wouldn’t have had any effect on these screws .
I should have just drilled the screws out yesterday .

Probably already been suggested, but have you tried a hammer?

This could be serious. I’m guessing there are Blackstar OEM’s in there. The high quality screws were a proactive defense mechanism to prevent them from being discovered no doubt.

The cab does look great though. Which is nice. So you have that going for you.

I definitely consider using some of the money saved by buying pre-loved to get that hammer I mentioned earlier.

Ok, joke over. Good luck man, I’ve had issues cracking cabs before. Like the one time I struggled to open an Orange cab a lot like the one pictured. I was pulling the V30’s out of it for another cab. Replaced them with Blackst… wait. Never mind! Totally different now that I think about it.
