Part of it could be that I jumped in the deep end and immediately started building presets from scratch. It’s possible it’s more intuitive when you start with a build preset with scenes and effects laid out already.

The screen was a little less responsive at first, but I think I’ve adapted in a couple days with it. It’s fine to me now. I setup the expression pedal with no problem. There’s a bit of menu diving and “swipe down from the top of the screen” type weirdness that the NC does not have in the phone app, but at the same time I prefer the on-device experience to a phone app anyway. Take that post of mine as the first impression, but I’m beginning to gel with the device, it’s pretty cool.

A few days in and honestly the QC mini is the device I wish Fractal developed. Perfect form factor, modeling and elite capture ability, never runs out of DSP even with 4 delays and a cave reverb, etc.

If it had Fractal’s pitch, ring modulator, Synth, and Plex Delay blocks it would be the perfect device. But the QC Mini is so small I can run it with a VP4 as well and have the best of both worlds anyway.

I have a suspicion that NDSP pretty much owns a certain demographic. Perhaps close to all the neck-tattooed ones, but also a very strong following among young guitarists in general.

I have a suspicion that NDSP pretty much owns a certain demographic. Perhaps close to all the neck-tattooed ones, but also a very strong following among young guitarists in general.

maybe like teenagers. Anecdotally, after the first 6-8 months from original release I pretty much never see them on stages. Lots of HX stomps, lots of FM9s, not a ton of QC. Of course this is the “regional touring band” circuit, but it’s not like it’s a $$$ thing given the real amp and other modeler rigs. Most of the people I know who went all in at launch went all in on the next thing, and the next thing, and the next thing.

And then if you factor in the small percentage of guitar-interested youth (a small subset) who actually gig (another small subset), where old people like us see them (yet another small subset)… Despite how I feel about it, I think most young guitarists are more concerned with how various plugins fit into their workflow in a “home studio” or with pushing content on social media. Given the hardware we see and the popularity I believe NDSP plugins have among younger players, I do think NDSP pretty much owns a certain demographic.

My Mini pairing this week.

My QC Soft Focus patch efforts were wayyyyy off, but difficult to bake in the noise (retro!) and general darkness from the OG FX500 patch. Gonna try to retrofit my QC patch, but the real gem is the friggin Symphonic Hall patch.

The stock Dumble they just dropped is elite. Great clean, EOB to mid gain tones.
