Quad Cortex Mini

Any QC Mini owners encounter this?

the pre-roll being greyed out in the LooperX on the quad cortex mini as well as the Midi clock and quantize.
Is there something I am missing?

Also when I unmute the metronome, there is no way to change the volume of the metronome.

Only reason I use plugins more often nowadays is because I'm the most indecisive human alive, and with hardware I'm always like "wait, before I actually write and track any riffs, let me try and get the perfect tone for the next 6 months straight"
Part of the reason that capturing my own amp has been good for me. I’ll dial in a tone on my amp and capture it, then I tend to want to use my own captures because it’s “using my amp” and I don’t tweak the capture like I would a model.

I'm like that too and I think many people are like that.
You'll hit the next stage of enlightenment where you just track stuff WET and have no ability to tweak anything until the actual mix stage.

Dont worry, the next next stage of enlightenment is then going back to DI's/Plugins
Then the next next next stage of enlightenment is going back to WET only.

At some point you'll track DRY/WET thinking you've cracked the ultimate combo, but you'll ditch that after a while as well.

At this stage I just go with the flow, it all works. If I can play a riff once I can play it again in 2 seconds, can re-track under a different set of circumstances in no time.

Sorry I haven’t used those functions at all so no idea. Maybe someone else can help.

Umm this is not just a you problem 😂

I was in the mood for some pointless consumerism, so I ordered a completely overpriced plastic stand for the QC mini from Thomann. An entirely unnecessary expense, but I have to say, it makes the QC look really nice on my desk, and the 27° angle makes the display much easier to read and use.

I have mine on one of this Dadario Xpand boards on my desk, which works well, but if I was being picky it could stand to be slightly steeper.

The form factor really is ELITE. Minimal footprint, solid IO, full power, and gives off tech vibes vs audio gadgetry. It’s a sleek bit of kit.

Super clean—I dig it!

For any 3d printing nerds out there, I printed several of these a long time ago for working with pedals on my desk (not my design).

It’s very light and sturdy enough for my needs, but certainly not as nice as what Zoltan posted above. I put some small stick-on rubber feet to prevent sliding, and it turns out it’s nearly a perfect fit for the mini.

Are any of you savages running your QC as an aggregate device in Logic?

Not having any issues when toggling the QC as an input or output device in Logic, but having some issues with routing when trying to run it as an aggregate device with my Apollo. (I don’t want the QC to be my primary audio interface, so I want all my normal Apollo IO/monitoring and to be able to freely route audio over usb in and out of the QC as well)

Curious if anyone else runs theirs as an aggregate device.

I haven’t tried this, my backup interface is a Scarlett Solo that collects dust basically. What issues are you seeing with routing?

That's gonna be independent of the QC no?

Aggregate devices can be finicky. What sort of issues are you seeing?

The first weird thing is it seems to matter which device you select first when creating the aggregate device. So I have two aggregates created, one with the Apollo selected first and then the Mini and then another aggregate that I selected in opposite order. Depending on which was selected first, that’s the IO I see when clicking a send or return. Weird.

So then I said F it, I can try to get that setup another time, I’ll just select the one showing QC IO so I can make sure I can reamp at least, and that’s acting weird too. So I go on a track that has a DI, select the output for “To Grid 5”, make sure my QC preset is set to input from USB 5, then make the out of the preset to USB 7/8. I go to the bus in Logic and select Input 7/8 (From Grid 7/8) and I’m getting audio from the QC, but it’s crackly. (High level it’s working because I can alter the preset in realtime and hear the changes)

It’s also creating another output next to Stereo Out, Output 5. (Which is somehow getting audio, despite having nothing visibly configured to point to it) I think it’s creating that when I initially select output To Grid 5 on the DI track. (Which should be telling it to route to USB5 not another output too, right)

Basically, I knew creating an aggregate would sound good in theory but be a major PITA. :ROFLMAO:

Yeah that's all on Aggregate devices not the QC.

I would make sure you select your Apollo first then the QC and select drift correction on the QC device. Set your Apollo to match the sample rate of the QC (is it 48KHz?) to minimize issues.
