Quad Cortex Mini

I have 5 patches already created that sound phenomenal and could pretty much just stop there-interestingly they are a complete mix of different devices. A free two rock capture, the Princeton model, the 800 model, a v2 plexi capture and a crunchy SLO tone that uses that Soldano X plug in amp.

I need some guidance on how to set levels. I have been using the master volumes or adjusting by swiping down-not sure if that is the best way at all but just the one I used. Any guidance would be appreciated. At some point I am going to have to get these levels consistent across the various pre sets and or create scenes. I still dont what I am doing and haven't cracked the manual.

I am finding an IR I know to be better than the cabs but I haven't played around with the cabs for more than 5 mins yet. I have just defaulted to an IR I know and like.

Options include: amp block's Output level, the Output level of the last block in the chain that has one (e.g. cabinet), or the Volume on whatever Output or Send block is at the end of your path. I usually go with the third option, since it can be applied consistently regardless of what blocks are in the preset.

As far as getting all your presets to the same level... this is the eternal struggle. There's no "one size fits all" since your overall volumes and timbres are going to affect the way you perceive relative volumes between presets.

I’m not too versed on the legend of the Dumble but it’s pretty intriguing on the QC. I paired it up with a 412 GB and the cleans are of course nice, but I’m kind of surprised how dirty you can push it with all the various internal boosts. Paired with the 1981 drive and its kind of playground for mid-gain indie rock vibes. Having fun with that, but the amp is going to be mildly frustrating until I can capture the million different ways you can get to tones with the various setting combos.

Is there a way to copy scenes from one preset to another? Or, to say save the current state of all the params in the amp block, then move to a second scene and start over, or do you have to individually assign each param to that scene?

I’m nearing the RTFM stage now that I’m reaching keeper status with it.

Yeah, the Dumble is like a roll your own amp construction kit. Lots of potential but also lots of work.

Good news: there is a way to copy Scenes. Assuming the Mini is the same as the OG: swipe up to go to Scene view; look for the copy icon in the top right corner of the Scene's block (looks like two sheets of paper?); press that. You'll be prompted to press the footswitch of the destination Scene. (There's also an icon for swapping two Scenes, which is frequently useful.)

The OG one was using some old af Cirrus Logic codecs. Does anyone know what is inside the mini?

Almost assuredly the same ESS codec used on newer QCs, and supported by CorOS 3.1.1+.

Very disappointed with plugins after so much Cliff Edging but I know that’s probably just me.

I would love a Cortex Mini in 1U rack form taking faceplate cues from the Nano Cortex.

Something from Fractal along similar lines would be great. My TC G Force shows you can pull off a grid and make it navegable in 1U.

I have an awesome 4U setup in mind but it’s DOA without something new coming out of Fractal or Neural so I had my hopes up.

YouTuber JNC made the point that the Cortex Mini is a tacit nod to the fact that many performers keep their Quad Cortex out of the way in a rack.

Agree, so why not just go full blown 1U rack? As a bedroom performer I would as well.

Ideally with Input 1, stereo Input/Output 2 and 3, and a main out.

This will never happen.

Because you can fit so much more in a rack with a drawer and a mini, you can still use the full touchscreen, and then you can also pull the mini for desktop, fly rig, etc. uses when you don't need the rack. Most importantly though, it sounds like demand for rack units is pretty low and they just don't sell well.

Heres the thing. The mini is great because its perfect as a backup (ultra-portable) if you're using a QC as your daily driver (gigging). If you're a home user, you don't need it if you already have a QC.

I am loving mine. No tweaking and just getting some great sounds and am getting there in a bunch of different ways. Amp models, captures-some free and some paid-big fan of Matt Fig's V2 DI captures and the SLO plug in. I have about 5 or 6 different core amp tones set and am just enjoying playing. Modellers have always been a challenge for me as it was just constant tweaking not with the QC now.

I have a couple of his V2 profiles including the Plex. I like the plex profiles better through a guitar cab than through monitors. I have found the BE and Jose profiles better through monitors but it could also be the IR I am using. Honestly I have not even touched the cabs in the QC at all. I have just been using a single IR that I know and really like which is a blend of a Greenback and v30.

I also really like his new Zwreks profiles.

Just make sure you check your levels as I have had to pull the volume back a bit on all of them but I think they sound and feel great.
