Quad Cortex Mini

honestly though if you are buying this just to use at home on a desk it is kinda silly right or am i wrong? however people wanna spend their money is fine by me and if something gets you playing and creating music thats cool i guess. but its kinda like they found a way to get 1300 from you instead of just releasing a program like HX native right or ??? i guess fractal doesnt have that option either but i just see people saying how this is a great desk top option and that part i kinda struggle with

At this point; everything I have is redundant to 5 other things I have laying around

Because you wouldn’t do it doesn’t make it silly. Why are people so judgmental these days lol.

It’s not like the thing has to be locked to a desk. It could be used at a stadium gig, in the living room, at a rehearsal…anywhere you could use any other modeler. Just because it’s a better desktop solution than the QC (or an FM9 or FM3 or Helix or whatever) for someone doesn’t mean that’s all it could/would be used for. And even if it is all they use it for, I’m not sure why that should be any issue for anyone outside their family. 🤷🏾‍♂️

well i did say however people wanna spend their money is fine and if it helps them play and make music that is cool lol.

i guess my point was specifically buying it to use on a desk. if you use it in other applications then yea that is different and makes more sense.

the idea behind my post really was just that it seems like they found a way to get 1300 from a section of customers who might have been fine if they did a software version like HX native. was meant to be more a commentary on decisions a business makes and what products they offer rather than judging what people buy and how they use it.

They aren't going to do a software version at a price that kills their pluggins. Plus if PCOM didn't make it obvious, it's not always easy to port the software up and back between a PC and a dedicated hardware device.

From a user perspective, I hate having to use a PC to play, and even if I am using the PC, I still often prefer a hardware device as opposed to plugging in to an interface. I would definitely prefer to have the QC mini on, next to or under the desk than have the same tones in software only.

Cool. Fair enough. Yeah a desktop version would have been kinda fucking awesome. Maybe they could have integrated the rest of the plugins then too. However it wouldn’t have addressed any requests for an even smaller unit they may have gotten from touring artists and such (very much speculation on my part). I still hope they do release something like that someday.

This is a size comparison I really wanted to see. When the Anagram came out, I was impressed. But now, seeing the screen size next to the Mini, it looks like it could be hard to see on stage.

I guess I'm just not following how using it on a desk is any sillier than using it anywhere else? The footprint alone makes it attractive on a desktop.

Obviously, you need to like the workflow and the sound of the amps/FX to justify the cost. But the utility per square inch speaks for itself IMO.

i dont have any of the plug ins, can you use cortex control if you only have their plug ins?

i guess i was saying for me if i was a helix user i wouldnt buy a 1300 dollar hardware unit if i primarily played at my desk - i would just buy hx native. it seems like NDSP calculated that people would buy them though so it made more sense going this route rather than developing and releasing a much cheaper software option. the point about it cannibalizing from their plug in business is very valid though.
