Addendum to testing above:

I decided to see if this huge noise difference also existed through my EV PXMs. It does and doesn’t. The QC is noisier than the QCM but I can barely hear it either way. I need to crank the EV’s volume and have my ear up near the speaker to hear the noise. So I think it’s a non factor in tha setup (through an FRFR type system) so perhaps that’s why not many people complain about noise issues.

Hm. I should probably check the difference, if any, through the amp’s FX loop. Duh.

The noise difference is still evident through the amp’s FX loop, but similarly to the EV’s I don’t think it’s an issue. I had to turn the amp’s master volume up to noon to make it obvious (ch 1 master controls it in a straight into the loop scenario). That would be super loud.

So to add to the conclusion above, if you’re running into the front of your high gain amp you just don’t want to be using the QC. Not sure about 4CM but I’d expect similar results.*

With the QCM you’d be just fine running into the front. So…

Good to read this about the QCM. I wonder if NDSP quietly improved SN several times during the life of the QC. My early QC’s were just as bad into FRFR as you describe going into a high gain amp. Axe III, FM9, FM3, Helix, TMP, even a lowly Headrush MX5 had dramatically lower noise floors in the same situations and setups.

IME, the QC is like any other processor that does not have proper built-in IEC type power supply and uses some kind of brick with only two contacts.

Partly true. Its definitely a grounding issue, but you could still use a barrel connector to feed the unit DC and ground but you need the right power brick and there are still ground and shielding issues with the QC that make it noisier than most.

“Let down” might be a better phrase. Alongside giant fake tits, $0.99 Big Gulps, I should never underestimate the appeal to the lowest common denominator and “shiny shit” definitely fits in that box. If you think a good hang is where everyone’s positive about everything, there’s plenty of Facebook groups and forums for that where you get banned for having negative opinions. This is a good hang not cus everyone’s got positive opinions about everything, but we have different opinions but still hang.

There's a difference between being positive about everything and going out of your way to shit on products you've never owned or have no interest in owning.

Nobody is asking for people to be positive about everything but we get it, some of you don't like NDSP and you will never buy one of their products. Some on this forum do.

There is a reason Whiz made the acceptable TGF companies. It was in jest but also kinda true.

It's hard for those who don't own a FAS unit or somewhat of a L6 unit to have an actual discussion without people coming in and just talking trash on a product. I have been guilty of this with the QC as well.

We talk about how bad the TGP was for those who didn't like the QC. This place is becoming just as bad but to those who do like the QC or NDSP. And I know, nobody is getting banned for liking the QC. But, people were banned at TGP for getting heated over the discussions, not truly because they didn't like the QC. People aren't getting banned here but it certainly reduces the members who want to discuss and people do leave because of it. A soft banning if you will
