Quad Cortex Mini

That any factor decreasing (or increasing) the price of the QC would correlate to the QCM as well. It's mostly the same 6-year old hardware.
They're two sku's that are very very close to each other in price, and they each risk cannibalising the sales of the other. That's why you'd raise the price of the regular QC.

Unless one unit is a lot cheaper than the other to produce, and so they're willing to take a hit to sell more of the expensive to make one. I don't know. It just seems very odd positioning to me.

I would bet big money two of those reverbs came from the new John Mayer plugin.

If you look at the Mayer plugin pedals, the knobs are from the originals. So from left to right you have the Keeley Katana, EHX Q Tron, Klon, TS10, and Way Huge Aqua Puss.

That weird ass knob on the reverb can only come from Valhalla:

Since the Mayer plugin has both a hall and plate, I would bet those two brand new additions are in the QC update.

Honestly, I’m all for that. I need to play with the new reverbs later today!

QCM just shipped :clint

You seem to ride this line of bad faith engagement and I can’t tell if it’s straight up trolling or just some English conversion thing.

High sales mean people like the item. That generally means they’re doing things right over the competition for whatever reason. The products aren’t going to fit every guitarist in every scenario but it’s funny hearing people try and cut them down or want to drop some wisdom on how they should have done xyz. Of course there’s always room for improvement but at the same time, the high sales also suggest they’re getting a lot of things right.
You’re thinking way too hard about this. Advertising + availability =\= quality. That’s the whole statement. It may or may not be (probably is), but the metrics of “it sold out” or “lots of people like it” don’t mean something is great. Like McDonald’s, or Joe Bonermasher. For all we know each retailer got a small amount for first day sales.

I never said it equalled quality, that was a strawman argument brought up out of nowhere. I just said they must mostly be doing things right because they seem to sell a lot of plugins and hardware.

Of course. But then, people buy fast food as if there's no tomorrow, too. Doesn't make it an excellent meal.

Also, obviously depending on the first production run, it might not be too difficult to sell out quickly. Do we know how many units were available?
There’s a big difference between a cheap ass fast meal, and a top-of-the-line modeler/capture device. You cannot honestly equate one with the other, in any type of analogy.

I follow some of the points in your thread, but do you honestly think this (an entirely new hardware design and supporting firmware) was the low-effort play?

Yep. Note, I also called it a smart business move on their end, to be fair.

My reasoning is because this seems to me, as a result of no one at any point in time asking for a smaller QC with less footswitches, that they had a list of “Shit our customers are begging us for “ and “Shit we can cram the OS into and get it shipping” and poof, the Mini QC was born.

This isn’t a solution to a problem people were looking for, it’s not response to customer needs. And that’s likely where my issue lay; I’ll remain stuck in my viewpoint of “They should take care of the people who got them to this point first and foremost” and I’m very clearly in the minority on that thought, which I believe is part of my increasing detachment from the world around me.

I think that the lack of a shared definition of "doing things right" is the issue. You're defining it as anything that results in high sales. I'm not sure that's a universally held truth.

No, they shaved 52% of the volume, given that they're identical in height  It doesn't mean you pedalboard will fit two QCM where the QC were.

Or, to put it another way, you'd need 75% less volume to halve both width and length.
Not getting into a math argument. I used the numbers you posted and I only calculated area. Intentionally. I didn’t calculate volume because like I said I thought height was irrelevant. And according to the numbers you posted the height is not identical. I think the volume difference would be greater?

Regardless, I never said or implied you could fit two of them in place of a QC. Has anyone said that? Obviously you cannot. But it does look to be significantly smaller to me. But the word “significantly” in and of itself makes that statement subjective. In this case it looks like it’ll take up a significantly less amount of space on my desk. I also think the space savings would likely be significant on a pedalboard, perhaps allowing me to easier fit it next to the VP4…but that’s a “hmmm, I wonder if…” thing that’s so irrelevant to me that I haven’t measured the board I have or anything.

I mean Desertdweller said it’s roughly 40% of the size and you said “no it’s not”, I was thing….yeah it is. Technically. 🤷🏾‍♂️ But no one said you could fit two in the space of one QC.

Fwiw, this is actually something I applaud NDSP for. Apparently they've teamed up with the Valhalla guy (from all I know, it's pretty much a one man affair) and licensed/transfered the plugin algorithm.

I wish that much more companies would do just that, the plugin world has incredibly great FX on offer. Having something like U-He's Uhbik suite available in a modeler would be absolutely killer. And even some freebies (such as Sixth Sample's Deelay) would be fantastic to have).
In case NDSP would port more Valhalla stuff (such as the incredible Supermassive space FX thing), that could in fact raise my interest quite significantly.
