Putting yourself out there kinda sucks

Katatonia is a mixed bag for me. Some of their stuff hits perfectly if I’m in the mood, some of it I can’t last through a song 😭

I just got tired of every vocal starting with “One……one word….now three words….” but I have dug a lot of their stuff.

I’m the youngest guy (at 55) in a “just for fun with the occasional gig” band, and I like it a LOT more than the bar band I was in when I was younger that gigged every weekend. The bar band was essentially work, because we had to frequently add new material to keep people coming to see us, on top of playing three nights a week.
Same here, I lead an original music band with no aspirations other than playing the occasional gig, festivals mainly, all fun, no $$ BS, and we're all great music buddies with the same aligned goals. Win

So been yapping for a long time about trying to start up my wrestle metal band. I lined up a group of friends a couple of years back into what I hoped could be a classic metal/easier thrash cover band that instead became a 'let's practice once a month but nitpick over 128th notes in bar 6 of a 77 bar opus" that never amounted to anything. To be fair; the "vision" materialized in my mind but the others had their own hang-ups (as did I 100%) and oddball song choices (aka no one wants to hear a Keel song in 2022) along with no shared motivations meant it became nothing pretty quick.

I digress.

I still want to do the the wrestlemetal thing. I don't have any idea who would play in it as I have been in cover band that actually gets booked and makes sense from a fiscal perspective mode and trying to convince someone to do something probably for younger people and no money is not possible.

I'm typing this out just to see if I should try wasting other people's time with this concept or if I should cut my losses now and just play my bad Deftones variations at home and enjoy those sweet Sweet Caroline dollars instead. I love playing with my band and friends so it's not that; just have a hankering to play some mildly heavier stuff from time to time.
I am officially "no one," I guess.

So my old singer is interested and now the drummer we played with in is interested as well.

:satan

Singer is making a song list and we are going to make an initial jam happen

I might already be building out a board for this non-existent project :bag

I didn’t waste any time yesterday, started sending messages out on Bandmix and made some posts in some Florida Musician/Band Members wanted groups on FB.

My buddy, Kiefer, who I played with in a previous band is most likely going to take the 2nd guitar spot, which is AWESOME. I’m hoping we can convince my long-time bud Mad One to play bass for us, but he’s been fairly “bluegrass only” for the last few years.

Going the covers/originals route right out of the gate. It’s easier to get a band started with some covers and they’re pretty much a necessity to get booked down here. Outside of some 80’s metal stuff, the covers will mostly be hard rock/metal that was on the radio through the 90’s/00’s. AIC, Tool, Metallica, Pantera, etc. then the occasional half-assed prog metal tune throw in between.

Yeah covers is a super easy way to start things up. Drummer said he didn't want to gig as his main band is busy (as is mine) and I am not going to pressure him. But if it gets going; we'll probably gig a time or 4
:bag :whistle :satan

I told the singer to pick 4-5 tunes off that list that he can do and we can pull together easy, just to see how the vibe goes. I feel like talking about it is immediately jinxing so I am trying to not talk about it. Unsuccessfully :hmm:rofl
