Pedal companies you irrationally dislike

For me it's Strymon, no real idea why. I just never look at anything they make and think "i want that". I'm in the market for a new reverb and delay and am looking at every brand out there except strymon.

No real point to my thread other than I was just watching some delay demos and everytime they came to the strymon I just mentally switched off.

Are there any pedal brands out there you don't like but have no idea why?

Electro Harmonix, even though I really like the Big Muff circuit. Something about Mike Matthews doesn't sit well with me. Maybe it's that fact that he used soviet factories back in the day during the fag end of the Cold War and yet chooses to market EHX pedals as being somehow intrinsically American now? I dunno, something seems off there, not sure what or why...

The reason I won't buy EHX again is they're badly made. I had pots fall apart on two of them and won't buy anymore.

I'd have to be interested enough buy them first.

I guess Strymon for me too. I don’t hate them, I don’t even dislike them, but I am completely apathetic about them.

I don’t really even know why; it seems irrational because I know they have a great reputation for making high quality stuff everyone uses.

Yeah, hating EHX isn't irrational. I sorta love/hate them, because I think a lot of their ideas are awesome - up to and including the circuits, if you can find the sweet spots - but their execution is often.. meh. (Even the enclosures look crappy.) They seem to be building to a price point, with the inevitable outcome.

But the minute you think EHX can't get the job done, Bill Ruppert will show up and smack you in the face. :D

That's my exact opinion of them too. I don't dislike anything about them but I also don't really like anything about them either.

For my own part, I don't have the time, patience, or pocket change to form an opinion about pedal companies anymore. I just buy high end modelers every few years, and then pretend I know what all this stuff is supposed to sound like. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
