PastFX Mischief

I was saying that pedals meant to sound like a Marshall sound like caricatures.

I recently tried the new Marshall JCM800 and 1959 pedals. I love me some Marshall.

They sucked hot ass. No. Check that. They were worse than that which sucks hot ass.

And that was running them into some killer tube amps.

I do have a couple I like.... an that are passable..... but yeah.... that Marshall power amp
goodness is going to be hard to cram into a tiny ass enclosure without the diode, transistor
and/or JFET clipping overlords from taking over. :idk

Not really, it's actually fairly similar to the amp dimed with the Hot Mod engaged and was a no-brainer when I tried it out. I was trying to figure out how to keep the amp dimed with the Hot Mod on until I tried the BE-OD for shits and giggles at GC, then I went in the opposite direction and decided to work with a clean platform instead.

The BE-OD Deluxe has 2 channels, stock the 2nd channel is cleaner than the first but there's a trim pot inside the pedal where I'm assuming you can match the levels. I'm likely going to use the 2nd channel as the dirt I feed a Fuzz Face to. The regular BE-OD pedal doesn't have the Mid knob, which was the main sell of the Deluxe for me.....even though I practically keep it in the middle anyway. :rofl

I am just messing you with, Drew..... but I can't help but wonder when you'll grow out of the BE Deluxe.

Current over/under is just shy of 90 days. :idk

:rofl

I so want to like Friedman stuff. I really do. Lord knows I have spent enough $$$ trying. Just
not a good fit for my ears.

As I recall the trimpot is for setting/adjusting the gain... rather than volume. I had that Deluxe a couple
of times..... because I thought it would address the issues with the single BE I had.
:brick

Glad it works for you and you diggity dog dig it!

Hahahahah I wouldn’t be surprised if I grow out of it in a year or so, I can see myself wanting to try other flavors of modded Marshall. That said, I’m pretty stoked with it, especially after I slapped some EQ after it and turned it into a modern chug machine!

It’ll have to NOT be able to pull off a bunch of stuff for me to want to swap it out and right now there’s not even a single song it’s being relied on for, so it’ll be a long ways before I’m getting sick of it!

That's awesome. All about the fun and inspiration it offers up. :cheers

I never tried it with EQ after.

Did you not dig the Lovepedal Vintage Modern/Purple Plexi in that role?? :idk

I did a big shootout with the Lovepedal, a few Bogner pedals (including the La Grange, Red, and Blue)
and the Friedman and ended up kind of digging the feel and responsiveness of the LP over the others.
It's dead simple, in comparison, but I liked the volume clean up and dynamics out of the LP over those
others.

Lord knows there are enough options out there that we can all find the one that works best for our
ears and rigs. :rawk

Ugh, my EAE Citadel is such a mystery to me.

One day it sounds terrible, the next it sounds amazing. It’s so bright and so “opinionated”, but also has such clarity and is so responsive.

I was all set to sell it and the LPD Eighty7. The last time I used it at a rehearsal it was terrible. Thought I’d plug it in one last time before selling it and it sounds so amazing I don’t know how I could have ever thought of selling it!

I’m sure tomorrow it will sound terrible again :rofl
