Paint Audio CE-1

Because it’s highly configurable for a variety of uses and a wide range of hardware.
Yeah i know that, just being (trying) to have a bit of humor about it :)
look, if you like your Linux Skin that’s going to temporarily lose compatibility with a bunch of shut every third update, good for you.
This is true depending on what one actually need, but then it’s the wrong thing to use. I’ve been all Apple user since many many years, but my needs and requirements are basically in line also. That’s what many people “do wrong” imo. One must choose what fits their use case the best of course. Common sense. Nothing is really better or worse.

For sure. There are positives to limited hardware compatibility, which I prefer in mobile devices. And positives to hardware modularity, which I prefer in a computer. I think it will be a long time (if ever) that a device like this would use a less (easily) configurable OS because some manufacturers don’t want to give you choices in favor of perceived stability. Even though they’ll still break stuff for developers regularly.

Will be amusing when people load it up with a bunch of old outdated unsupported freeware, an unlicensed copy of Reaper, some cracked plugins, russian spyware and some p0rn for good measure. and then wonder why it’s not running well.

Someone had to do it though, good for them. People always wonder about this stuff

Just went through this with a bandmate. Bought a budget PC for simple demos, nothing fancy, but more than capable of recording 3-4 tracks at a time. Two weeks later it’s “broken”. Homie had every free Microsoft Store app Bing recommended installed, couple of random search bars in chrome (didn’t even know this was still a thing) and somehow re-enabled all the background shit that we turned off in Windows. Like how? Why? This is the same guy that had to take his phone to AT&T for them to tell him it’s going to be slow if he has all his apps running in the background including a browser with like 50 YouTube tabs.

This is better, imo, if a computer is the thing

And yeah… if it were me, I’d use Overloud with this.

Guitar Summit 2024

Impromptu session

Gig Performer and Overloud TH-U

We've recently launched our product at Guitar Summit 2024. 1st product batch will be shipped by the end of November (EU stock). I'm sure you have many questions:

1) Yes, it is a valid product. CE and FCC certified (unlike the nDSP China copy).
2) Yes, we will have Gig Performer 'Octave version' installed on our device as well as Overloud TH-U 'Octave version' (our main software collaborators).
3) No, it doesn't crash. Yes, Windows are modded /debloated and aimed towards musicians and audio editing. Yes, you will have a Windows image to restore in case you mess up the device and that image will be updated sporadically by us so we won't leave you hanging.
4) The internal audio interface is German made and chosen out of many audio interfaces based on its stability, low latency and future driver update record of its company. So no, it won't let you stranded in a year. Future driver support is no.1 priority for us.
5) Retailers and distributors will be chosen wisely. Stay tuned!

Price point is pretty good, actually. They might sell a few of these!

Would be cool to be able to keep up with my Reverb list while I'm jamming! :banana :facepalm :pickle

Kind of a cool idea imo. It's 'innovative.' Oh wait, there's that word that guitarists don't like.

How bout it! I have to be at a computer if I wanna shit-post while practicing. :bonk

This is awesome IMO. And "Mr. Wilson" is a rockstar IMO. His designs are very sensible, they're great values, and he just seems to "get it". For instance, I was very impressed that he came right out and admitted what a PITA Windows (still) is on a touchscreen.

$1100 is just north of impulse purchase for me, but I would love to have one of these. Devil's in the details and so on, but I could this replacing a QC and iPad, for amp sims + effects + MIDI conversion + soft synths. (Plus vocals.)

I agree, but there are a few unknowns. Specifically: exactly what sort of CPU is this thing running, and what sort of pared back psuedo-Windows image?* Both might be less powerful and less universally compatible than one might assume. (Likewise for the Octave device above - which also looks awesome.)

He talks about this in the video. Because it's a low volume, high cost product, they're essentially building on demand. So you're ordering against 0 inventory, and then they're manufacturing. (It would be nice to have an estimated turnaround time - even ballpark.)

*EDIT: Never mind...

Damn it. GAS.

GAS'ing and obsessing now. Oh well, I needed a distraction. The Octave is an amazing value if they can hold to that 765 EU price. (Pair it with Mr. Wilson's MIDI Captain - everybody wins!) The 10" screen and smaller footprint are great, too. More important: built-in lithium ion battery!

But again, I'm not clear as to what CPU is in this thing. I'm guessing they've gone with a less power-hungry architecture in order to meet price, size, and battery power targets?

Also having trouble finding photos of the back panel. MIDI I/O?

I'm more than confident that they're the same company. They might have improved, though. But my experience is what I can speak of.

Regarding the device... Well, I wouldn't trust it anywhere near a PC-of-your-choice + interface + midi controller, which you can upgrade if power has become insufficient, be sure about AD/DA controllers quality, be sure about the MIDI controller quality or expand/shrink it as needed, etc.

VSTs for live use in a format different than a proper computer+interface only seems to be feasible in the QC format, and look how hard the process is being for them.

Another guy presented a mini pc based system to run VSTs months ago. It had a touch screen and whatever. He planned to sell it in the 1k ballpark. I've heard nothing else from that project. I thought it was impossible to make it totally useful for live use, and it has little life span. And for that price, I can't find the point. And if it is for home use... Well, obviously it loses any sense.

Well, my practical prediction is the one I've made above. I'm standing by it. I guess only time will prove me wrong (or right... ha!).
You're wrong, Mr. Wilson used to work for Melo company. However, MeloAudio and PaintAudio are not the same company, and Melo is not the predecessor of PaintAudio. PaintAudio was founded by Mr. Wilson himself and has nothing to do with Melo.

Still looking at these as the next gen devices. Waiting a year on updates compared to quick fixes on a computer is the past. The purpose built hardware really wins for convenience, but this is the best of both worlds here. If they did the form factor correct you could even swap mobo/cpu when things got faster. But even right now should have the power of 4-16 Helixes I would guess.
