Our catalysts came in but don’t save fx settings

Just received our first pair of catalysts for the school just in time for the kids to play a haunted house for a week.

All of the amp settings and presets and stuff are working fine except sometimes some failed to load errors but they’re saving ok.

However the effects don’t save. I save to amp, save to file whatever. Either way when I reload the preset it’s back on the wrong fx. What’s going on here?

Plug your Helix into them (if you have one)....then you'll really dig them. I know you love your FRFRs...but just try out the Helix this way with cab modeling disabled. Play around with different amp models and hear/feel all the subtle differences. You'll see what some of us have been saying about disliking FRFRs / IEMs.
Yes, put it in Power-Amp mode on the back and plug it into the return and hold on:beer

I have pretty much every 4x12 cab and speaker combination you can think of at the studio. They're kind of like avalon mic pres are for rappers. If you don't have them, you will make the recording clients nervous. I understand how quick and simple running thru a 12" can be, I just can't personally, and have never found a human who can, tell the difference between a mic'd up cab and the impulse of that mic'd up cabinet in a test.

I would just bring the catalyst personally as it is LIGHT!!!! And very easy to tilt on an amp stand. But in my band I do a lot of acoustic and also play the "keyboards"thru a poly synth pedal so I need a tweeter

Not talking about the difference between a mic'd up cab and the impulse...just talking about the sound of the Helix through that Catalyst speaker / cab. Anyhoo...glad you like it. Enjoy!

Oh yeah! I bet my distorted patches sound unreal thru it (especially since the pretty much got to run my regular helix rhythm sound thru it using just the onboard stuff). Not sure which amp “hi gain” is on there but it sounds as good as my helix.

Also interested in the catalyst as a powered setup for Helix. I’ve been interested in the FR12 - didn’t realize people were digging the catalyst for that purpose though.

Hi gain is either Oblivion or Badonk depending on which amp bank you are on (Badonk was added with the CX update) - both sound killer.

It really is a great power amp/speaker for modelers - the only drawback is it’s open back so a bit of a compromise for high gain stuff.

The Catalyst and (worth mentioning) Katana excel at exactly this, imho.

I know people are digging their Fryette PS and whatever other big iron, expensive tube power amp you can think of, but if you want a nice and bold, legit power amp, at a fraction of the price, stick to a used Catalyst/Katana.

Seriously, they do sound pretty good.

Also, if it's stolen or damaged beyond repair, just grab a bunch of moneys and buy again.

The big drawback for me is that you can’t do the acoustic cleans or keyboards as there’s no tweeter. Also that you are stuck with the sound of that one 12” speaker. It’s a great speaker but maybe I want something different sometimes. Or highs.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I believe I remember reading why L6 didn't drop a Catalyst head, but I forgot what it was. Maybe production costs paired with target market.

I wish I could find one locally to try. I’d love to have a light versatile combo on the cheap but everything I hear online from it sounds brittle and thin.

I remember @Digital Igloo mentioning that he thought making a head would be a great product, but would not sell as many as would be needed to justify it on a cost basis. The target market for these amps would probably not buy enough.

These amps are really starter amps for starter guitarists and most would not already be setup with cabs yet so the combos would sell so much better. The bonus being that experienced players can make these amps sound so good and a head/cab would be what experienced players would prefer but that is not the market on these.

Not meaning to put words in his mouth, but I think it was something along these lines.
