The price on the GX one is really good at 229$ but would it be better to just put that $229 towards the MG 50 LI?

IMO it would be better spent on the AM4 I know it is twice the price but it would let you try the Fractal amp , cabs and effects
I sold my FM9 for it and actually prefer it , it’s easier to navigate by a mile and you still get 90% off the deep editing if you want it
Unless you must have pitch the 4 blocks can do a ton

You said you prefer more classic rock sounds it would be great for that you could have amp/ cab / boost / delay / reverb / compressor/ graphic eq
Wah/ drive in one preset

Completely different units, though.
Yep , but he is always wondering about fractal tone and at 699 US
When they are back in stock , it’s a good way to find out if you like the Tones , some prefer QC some prefer Helix but the only way to know IMO is see for your self

The AM4 is definitely my Goldilocks modeler.

That said, as far as the original question goes, I think whether or not to get a piece of BOSS gear comes down to whether you like the BOSS way of doing things. The best amps in that unit are likely to be the X-Amps. That may not thrill you. You should consider it feature complete, because they are not a company with a reputation for adding capabilities through updates. Stuff like that. You know their stuff will be built to last, so that's nice.

I like Roland/BOSS, so I'd probably get the GX-1. In fact, I just might. But I understand I'm getting something that will not match other units in some conventional ways, while doing what BOSS does distinctively.

How do you find the AM4 to navigate? Is easy? I always see the level of detail of fractal units and I don’t think they are for me but this one got me curious because it seems easier

Well, as it's often been said, in Europe it's more than 900€.

In the US, it makes sense (even when it's not an all in one device). But in Europe... It's harder to bite, IMO.

Wow, I didn’t realize that that’s crazy
That NUX unit is like double the price of the GX one here in the states maybe less if we find a discount

The only problem with NUX is it’s a resale value is awful so if you paid $499 for it and sell it used even six months or a year later you’re lucky if you get 200

I don’t find it all that hard to Navigate , the editor is really slick but on unit is pretty easy to

The basis is you have 5 modes

Presets - do what you would think

Scenes this one you would have to learn a bit about w channels

Effects - your basic stomp
pedalboard

Tuner / Tap. Pretty self explanatory

Amp mode - this just gives instant access to the front panel of the up to 4 amps you can have in a preset

Overall you can still do some deep editing but on the surface it’s much more like an amp panel and effects box I. Terms of setup

The gx1 sounds really compressed in videos whereas the mg50li sounds more open and live

All of Boss' amp models are like that. It's somewhat less on their own X stuff, plus they may add something interesting (to some folks), but for any kind of classic amp tones, Boss's amp modeling just sucks.

I think Boss' X amps are underrated. In 10 years' time people will be seeking out vintage GT-1000 units, mark my words.

Unfortunately some other things don't work so well.

EDIT: by other things, I mean Boss effects lag the competition. For example, phaser, envelope filter, reverb. IMO of course.

Have you played anything Boss since the GT-1K came out? The amp models of “real amps” are just ok, but the X-Amps are great. This NUX things looks like it has potential and it does sound good. I just wish someone would do “here’s all the extreme edge use cases for footswitches and exp pedal assignments, here’s some cool shit that might not be obvious from the manual” videos for ALL of this stuff. Like Boss even apparently doesn’t know what the “active range” adjustments in the assigns menu do in correlation with the input controller. At least the AI that answers CS questions doesn’t anyways.
