Nut Files

Absolutely the best setup related gear investment are nut files in my honest opinion, not even the most expensive guitars I have came with a perfectly cut nut, it is usually too high or not cut/shaped at all.
I found that nut height is makes all the difference between a REALLY nice and easy playing guitar and not, everything else being equal.

I bought these:

Carefully filed each string for minimum gap at first fret.

I bought my files many years ago. They are also Ibanez branded files. I don't need to use them very often but it is nice having them when I do need them. Mine have held up very well. One thing I can tell you is to be careful with the smaller files. I have ready many instances of people getting them in a bind while filing and snapping them. Just be careful and take your time with them.
