TL;DR: I can’t live without my IEMs but I want to expand my options for live modeling so I had a friend do a $50 mod on a $70 DI box so I don’t have to spend $1k to have my routing and momentary switching.
In an effort to consolidate some gear, move some stuff that is redundant beyond my needs and also get some stuff going with some of the unique controller assigns of Boss modelers, I’m switching up my live rig from a Helix LT and a backup Floor to a Boss GT-1K with a GX-100 as a backup. But my bands use in-ears and go DI so the GX-100 doesn’t have the outputs that the Floor/LT/GT-1000 to support fixed-level XLR to FOH and the IEM with an adjustable level to a stage monitor. So I have a friend who builds amps and pedals and basically anything with electronics in it and I had him modify this little stereo DI box to send input 1 to both XLR outs and the through 2 output and adding a trim pot for the through level. So now I can take anything with a 1/4” output and have an adjustable stage level with two fixed-level outputs for FOH and IEM. This also means I can try a bunch of cheaper pedals and integrated them live if they work.
