What was the deal with HWY 1’s, like US parts but assembled south of the border or something?

The Highway 1's were the entry-level American made Fender guitars.

Yeah they were like the perfect blending of vintage and modern IMO.

Larger frets, 22 frets, headstock truss rod access, 9.5” radius

Thin nitro finish, ashtray bridge, 3 brass saddles


Mine was my main gigging guitar for many years. I still miss it

Install new Gotoh "In-Tune" brass compensated saddles. Check.

"Kiss" the nut slots with appropriate slotting files in prep for moving from 9s to 10s. Check.

Restring with D'Addario XL 10s. Check.

Adjust neck relief. Check.

Adjust string height (action). Check.

Intonate. Check. (spot on, by the way)

I believe it originally came with a thin nitro "satin wine red" finish. However, the original owner had it customized with a thin nitro gloss layer that really pops.
