New pedalboard build: It’s finished!

I think pedalboards are like houses. You really need to live in them for a bit
before you build them so you can know what you would change after you are
living in/ with it.

Yeah it’s funny how no matter how much thought you put into it up front, they always require a couple revisions. (being generous lol) You won’t really know what you’ll like/dislike about it until you’ve committed and used it.

Epic build, Met!

I like the metaphor, although it better not be too accurate...

We're currently looking to buy a home, and if it's like pedals we'll have three couches, five beds, and at least two backup dining tables by the end of next year. 😂

Just in case, eh? You never know 🤷‍♂️😁

Yeah, being all modular you never 100% know how some pieces are going to play together until you put them on the board and try them out.

I’ve already discovered a big change I’ll have to make. I love the Bathing and Dark Star, but I’ve discovered they both have one fatal flaw: the wet/dry mix is SUPER touchy.

Like it goes from “I can’t even hear the effect” to “I can’t hear anything but the effect” if you breathe on that knob! It makes them near impossible to tweak to the venue during shows.

So I’m going back to the Surfybear reverb and I’ve got a Delay Llama Xtreme on its way.

I’m keeping the Bathing and Dark Star, but I’ll use the Surfybear and Llama when I need more control and more “meat and potatoes” delay/reverb tones

I will also add, I think that’s one of the big advantages of a modular rig like a pedalboard.

Don’t like your reverb? Swap that pedal out for a different one.

As opposed to an all-in-one solution like one of the big modelers where you’re stuck with what’s in the box.

Fair point!

Although with stuff like the Helix for example, you get a lot for the initial buy-in.

I paid 1500€ for the Floor a couple years back, considering that's 5-10 average good-quality pedals, the amount of nice models in the Helix is outstanding for the price.

Anyhow, two different worlds/approaches, so to say. Both are legit.

Good point!

I am still in the both/and camp versus the either/or one rig to rule them all camp. :idk

I like being able to choose the rig for the gig. Having done the massive pedalboard
thing several times, and the digital grab and go rig of late, I like having both options.
Have even used both----an all analog rig and an all digital rig---at different gigs in
the past couple of months. Oddly I enjoyed both, and had fun, too. Crazy!

All in ones are the most logical, practical, flexible, powerful etc choice, but I still like buying and arranging little colorful boxes more, for now anyway.

I think both are completely valid approaches, just different philosophies.

Some people prefer:
just give me one thing that already does everything I need

Other people prefer:
just give me the pieces and let me build it exactly how I want it”.

It’s kind of like Windows vs Linux

Meanwhile, this just arrived so I’ve got some playing to go do!
