New IBG Epiphones - Get them before Eagle does

Gibson did do a faded doublecut in TV Yellow. Here's mine, a 2005, owned from new. It's a great guitar, though I say so myself. šŸ‘

I recently got a used cherry one from 2008 at GC that the original owner had worn the top and neck finish down from playing (I guess…?) that was a kick-ass guitar. I ended up trading it in toward a new SG special that is even kick-assier! ;)

The Faded series were "reliced" at the factory, but subtly, mainly on the back of the neck and on the upper bout of the body. It doesn't really show up well in the photo, but over the years mine has naturally aged nicely.
Congrats on getting an SG Special. Cherry Red, I hope????? I'm looking to get one of those myself in the near future. New ones even come with a hard case, as opposed to the softshell case with the Standard. šŸ‘

Yup! Was hanging in the shop at Sweetwater. It is perfect - rings like a bell or growls like a jaguar, depending on my mood.
There is a used ā€˜61 SG Standard right now at my local GC that I may have to pair it up with…

I like the DC but you can still find Gibsons at a reasonable price. If I were in the market for one I’d spend the money and get the Beato. Other guitar player in my band has one and it’s sweet. That satin burgundy is gorgeous in person. I’d also happily buy a Pelham blue SG Specisl with P90s. But I love SGs. I think they’re my favorite guitar actually. Between my P90 Standard and Faded Special, they’re my favorite guitars to play.

The last Greeny I saw was this one;

I'm not convinced the custombuckers they're selling at £519 a set are the same pickups they're fitting to Epiphones. To be honest I have no evidence for this apart from my general distrust of GIbsons marketing.

You do get different models of pot from CTS, I don't know about switchcraft though. I assume they would probably produce a different spec switch as an oem for a big enough order though.

The greeny is definitely a veneer

I'd bet they are the real deal Custombuckers, but I sure as hell wouldn't pay $500 for a set of Gibson pickups unless they are vintage T-Tops or Patent numbers. Just like how PRS charges $200 per pickup and you get under the hood and they are nothing special, I don't think there's any magic in the Gibson models at all. I'd much rather get a set of Seth Lovers and a pair of alnico 3 magnets and keep the $200.

I don't mind veneers on cheap guitars as long as there's a good thick piece of maple underneath. But again the pictures I've seen of the IBG Epis, if you think those are AAA, you might want to check out AA.

Just to close the loop, I'd honestly rather see some better build quality Epiphones rather than the same ones with Gibson parts and a hard case. I'd rather have good bones I can swap my own parts into.

I can’t bitch about veneers considering my Orville has a piece of photo paper instead of a sheet of thin wood for a top. :rofl

As long as there’s a legit maple cap underneath it, IDGAF.

Oh….and as long as it’s not an Epiphone.

I feel you, like I don’t have anything against a veneer (or even photo flame lol), I just start getting bitchy about it after a certain price point

Like, I love the hell out of my Strandberg, but I think it’s weak af that a guitar retailing at $2400 (and MII to boot) is pulling veneer crap. I’m ok with the price I paid used for this but I’d probably die before paying the retail lol. Just kinda matter of principal when I know the margins getting pushed

At least the body is sone sexy swamp ass

I have played two Strandbergs now and both of them made me want to get rid of a large number of my guitars and only play Strandbergs. I don't know WTF they do with their neck and frets but it's like magic.

I can understand a $500-$600 Epiphone (though I’d rather have a PRS SE). But $1300 is insane. You can get Studios and Tributes all day long for less, used.

Yeah I sold my Tribute in pretty good condition with the matching gig bag and with the stock pickups & PCB harness replaced by Friedman pickups and CTS/Switchcraft for $1000. Would definitely argue that's a better guitar than most Epiphones even when upgraded.

Downside is I *HATE* Slim Taper and that's the only thing they put on the < $2000 Gibson LP's.

I battled internal demons for a while before grabbing my nx6 prog. I do still think theyre vastly overpriced given country of origin, but doesn’t change the fact that they’re amazing guitars and the only way to ā€œget a strandbergā€ is to get a Strandberg

The endurneck is indeed awesome
