I went shopping for a workhorse acoustic around $1,000. Played a ton of stuff, this is what I walked out the door with

Appears to be the GC exclusive 214ce. Nice!

A couple of weeks ago I traded into a new 117e. It plays great and just rings.

The 100 and 200 series Taylors may be the best bang-for-buck acoustics out there.

Which model is that Met? I do love my love my Taylor, so easy to play and sounds great.

It says Sunset Blvd 214ce Eclipse Burst

Yeah, these 100 and 200 series might not have all the depth of tone of the higher end series, but they play like a Taylor. Which is one of the biggest draws for me.

Everything else I played there was something that was going to be a compromise, or some flaw I knew was going to bother me. This felt like a guitar I could take straight to any gig without any changes and know it would get the job done. The fretwork is great, intonation is spot on, every note rings out, no dead spots or hot spots, no weird frequencies poking out in the electronics, and it plays like a Taylor!

I'm a big fan of the 100/200 series guitar I used a Taylor 210ce for about 15 years and loved it.

One interesting thing I noticed is that the shape of the cutaway is slightly different than the normal Grand Auditorium.

This is a 314ce:

When I started looking it seems all the x14ce models below 300 are like this. I guess that style must be more cost effective to produce or something.

Doesn’t bother me, but it’s slightly surprising since that body style is one of Taylor’s best known signature designs

Yes the straight cut away is cheaper to manufacture than the curved ones on the American models. The dreadnoughts are the same
