New amp switcher day! KHE Audio 4x4 FX

I know it's a mess but I had to just throw it all together to play with it, will clean up and make it pretty later.

Ordered one, took about a week to show up, Amazing piece of kit. I wish they had a 4x2 x2 FX. I only have 2 cabs, could use even more amps but I really wish I could have my FM9/Helix or my pedal board able to be in the loop via a switch but that is just a wish thing.

Now I am messing with my amps that are super close to pick the keeper, for instance I have 2 5150 III S's, 1 EL34 and 1 6L6, the switch is absolutely amazing for comparing. Then I can get down to the 4 amps I want all the time. Maybe thin out the things that are too close to bother with. Replace it with something else on the list.

But so nice to just have the ability to flip some switches and no f'n around unplugging and replugging for even a second!

I think I need a 2 U or maybe a 4 U rack for the switch and power and maybe a future Synergy....

Congrats. I'm totally jealous.

I've had my eye on that exact model for about a year.

I have 10 cabs, 2 x Ironman II attenuators, a Fryette PS2, and a couple of Z-matchers, so I have been struggling with the idea of the single 4x4 FX model, or combining a couple of different units to maximize my connection options. First world problems. :sofa

I feel the GAS now more than ever. 😁

I think the EL34 is a bit more scooped to my ears but I think you can dial that out, the biggest difference to me is the speakers, before my switch I was only playing the Stealth on the Mesa V30's, now with the switch I can move them both around and they are so close I personally don't think it's worth owning both. I started with the combo and found the Stealth locally for $650 that I couldn't pass up but I prefer the head at this point because I like the V30's more than the G12H's. the G12H's honestly could need to be broke in better maybe but I don't think it will be what my ears are digging.

G12Hs and gobs of gain are a disastrous marriage that should end in divorce, if you ask me.

Permanent divorce.

G12H30/Anniversary, correct?

I dunno I really enjoy the H30s with the 5153 and my ridiculous red channel gain settings

I have a question for those of you who are familiar with these and other head switchers. Basically it has to do with how far these units need to be from the amp heads they are switching. I'll explain the situation:

I have the Mesa Head Tracker and it works fine for two amps with my Axe-FX in 4 cable mode and one cabinet. I had a custom head switcher built by a popular amp mod guy that would do up to 4 amps and 4 cabs with the FX loops. It was a straight-forward passive unit with no power supply or anything like that. Unfortunately, every time I tried to use more than one amp it had high pitched microphonic squeal when not playing. After sending it back so he could "repair" the shielding, I got it back, but it still had the same issue, What he neglected to tell me was that the switcher couldn't be too close to the amp heads. (I rearranged the units as far as I practically can in my space and it still had the issue, so I just sent it back and am awaiting a refund.)

The Mesa does what I want without any real issues, but I am still thinking of getting something that will take up to 4 heads with FX loops. After my experience with the custom build, I'm a little worried that I may have similar issues with feedback noise, Does anyone have any experience using these in somewhat compact environments where you can't have the switcher separated from the amps be several feet?

I don’t know if it’s what you mean but when I first hooked it up in a hurry I had it on top of the Mark V. Then I tried under the Mark V so it was more stable before I decided to order a 2u rack for it iand my power and had zero issues at all.

Good questions. My gut feel is that whatever was built for you wasn't made very well. I have not seen this complaint about the KHE stuff at all. I've seen many videos with people having their units on top of amps and they don't seem to reporting it.

I have no experience with one directly mind you. The guy who set up KHE used to be a Sneap Forum regular waaaaaay back in the day, and he seemed like a solid guy. I've had a few email exchanges with him and he's very eager to help. Just send them an email: https://www.khe-audioelectronics.com/contact-khe

I'm 99% sure I'm getting one of their units next year.

I have my amps sometimes stacked on top of the rack my KHE is in and have had no issues.
