NDSP Quad Cortex

The Stadium is going to be great, no doubt about that.

But as of today, if one can live with the narrowness of its footswitches, for me the QC is the best unit of the market. Sounds are second to none. It´s nice an easy to use, it´s got a lot of power... and it´s the first capturing device that does fuzz and compressors.

the new update is amazing. the eventide micropitch is crazy. the synth is really good. the pattern trem is awesome. im still figuring out the bit crusher. the data corruptor is super fun.

to me its now the device that sounds and feels the best, is very easy to dial in and adjust on the fly, and now has all the super cool extra effects that were missing... all in the best size device. id still love a stadium and L6 has proven how they quickly add to their units but overall I am not regretting selling my LT at all.

I haven't heard any talk about the spring reverb, despite lots of people seemingly asking for it.
Can anyone give me a quick review?
It almost goes without saying, but it's a huge improvement over the "Spring" that the QC originally shipped with. It doesn't do the "drip" thing that makes me geek out whenever I hear a digital reverb pull it off. (Fender has this little parlor trick nailed down.) But it is a very transparent, musical-sounding reverb in its own right. It sounds like a polite spring reverb behaving politely, basically. :idk (Reminds me a lot of the Source Audio True Spring I sold impetuously yesterday, for about a dollar.)

And... it's just occurred to me that I've only tried the new Spring Reverb Engine after amp blocks. I wonder if it gets any more drippy or otherwise characterful in front of an amp, surf-style.

Has this QC update made you want a stadium any less?

What is this 'drip' of which you speak?

Up front!

Having had a QC multiple times, I personally prefer the Stadium. There is something addictive about it that just makes playing guitar fun!

The QC is really good as well. Can't go wrong imo
Does the fact that the Stadium XL is $1000 more where I am change that opinion?

"Drip" is an artifact that many real spring reverbs have with percussive picking. It's a desirable thing in the world of surf guitar and was real prominent with the old Fender 6G15 reverb units in front of 60's fender amps, and a little less so with the built in reverb of the BF amps. Some digital sims get it OK, some simply don't.

am I crazy for thinking of buying in now? I think the Stadium is fine but I think they are way out from producing captures as good as this.

Not crazy. I mulled it over myself… :bag

But I’m not going to pull a Gasp for it unless they pull another rabbit out of the hat and drop another big update early next year. :ROFLMAO:

Cool.

Yes, in the sense that I'm not GASing quite as hard as I was... but I'm not about to cancel my pre-order or anything. :D

(I've forgotten about the FAS AM4 altogether.)

@mbenigni I'm listening. lol
First thing to remember is, I never intended to go without a QC either way. I have two of them now, and if the Stadium is all I expect it to be, I'll probably go down to 1 QC and 1 Stadium. Form factor alone makes it very unlikely that I'd sell both QCs.

Unfortunately, I won't have much more to say until the smaller Stadium ships. I'm guessing January?

Do you mind my asking where you are? I'm guessing England or somewhere in Europe?

I'm probably jumping the gun even mentioning this, but as noted above, it's likely I'll have a (barely) used QC available for sale soon. True "like new" experience - I've probably still got the Sweetwater's Bit-O-Honey's etc. in the box. :D
