NDSP Quad Cortex

Props for finally putting out a few features that I would've enjoyed (folders, frigging finally!). Too bad I sold my QC already and this is nowhere near enough to even get me to consider considering maybe possibly getting another one.

From their manual:

"Neural Capture is Quad Cortex’s flagship
feature. "

I agree they suck at releasing models but they told us right off the start what they view as the main feature of the QC. It isn't the models.

I still love you

It is a “feature” yes, but to act as if they sold this as a capture player, and modeling was some peripheral afterthought, is a retelling of history.

You're both right. Capturing was the "flagship" feature, but primarily because it was still relatively novel at the time. And it is effective in dealing with the absence of a specific amp you want/need. Well-realized models are still easier and more fun to work with, though, and I'd hoped to see them arrive more frequently.

@JiveTurkey's point about new effects being the best path forward is... righter than both of you. :D

(Holy crap the spellchecker thinks "righter" is a word!)

Steve Lukather was pretty much the dude that made them known, using a couple Lexicon PCM70’s.

You can hear what they sound like here-

I use them mostly on cleans, but the occasional lead if it’s not too busy.

Shit! I'm gonna love this.

Always Be RighterTM

I think it's important to note that NDSP does not view the model portion of the QC as the flagship feature.

It's blatantly obvious by now, but what should infuriate QC owners is that they sold the device specifically on that promise - 4 years ago now.

The truth is that the business models for the QC vs. plugins were doomed to clash with each other, and i think it's clear which one the company is choosing to favor these days.

It still blows my mind that so many actual paying customers championed the paid plugin model. Yes, even the ones that already owned a few of the plugins were shooting themselves in the foot IMO. (P.S. They hit my foot as well LOL.)

Does this excuse them from lack of updates, no. But they classify the flagship feature as the captures. I imagine they think those will cover any gap in missing amp models (and I honestly don't think they are wrong.

For example, fractal has a ton of amps....I use maybe 5-10 at most lol is it fun to have more amps, no doubt about it. But I can't think of a tone the QC (or any digital device) can't cover at this point.

The fly in the ointment of that line of thinking is that they used to release significant libraries of Neural-provided amp captures as well, and that too has dried up.

There are still holes in the Mesa Mark and Dumble families to my ear, and neither factory models nor captures plug them.

I think a lot of it was driven by how slapdash the QC effects were at the time versus the considerably more capable plugin effects. To NDSP's credit, they seem to have fixed a lot of the mod effect issues with newer models since. I still think they're lacking in drive pedals, reverbs and delays, however. Not sure if there are any plans to fix that...
