Another Facebook Marketplace find. Needed a little bit of work, but it has the original CTS speakers!

Haha!

I have a '68 Silverface and find the Supers surprisingly light and easy to move for a burly Combo. :idk

I had a Mark V Combo that was considerably heavier. But yeah, Casters help, for sure. :beer

It is! I was shocked. I mean, it's awkward as hell to lift, but it's not outrageously heavy. I'm completely hooked on old Fenders now.

I understand. Completely. Have a few myself. You don't need to crank a Super for them to sound
great either. :banana

I prefer the Supers and Vibroluxes to the Deluxes and Twins myself.

Maybe it is the 10" speakers. :idk

You might be onto something. I like princetons too

As you know, a lot of those Blackpanels are similar Tonestacks with different Output
sections. Makes me wonder if the Fender Blackpanel circuit jives with 10" speakers
better than other types of amps/circuits do.

Apart from some Fenders I think I've only played two Marshalls and a vox which came with 10s. The Marshall combo sounded really weak and lifeless but the ac10 was really cool.

Nice (love old Super Reverbs)! I have a 71 Super Reverb with original CTS speakers (it's actually a blackface with the chrome front panel), all original that's just been re-capped and re-tubed (it's been a studio amp since it was purchased new in the 1970's, and I've owned it since it was new), available in the San Francisco Bay Area CA if anyone is interested (I'm not going to ship it, local pickup only).

PM me if local and interested.

I've had a blackface Deluxe Reverb for about 15 years, too. They seem to like more sensitive speakers. I never really cared for the original Oxford speaker, but I recently put a JBL D120 in it and it's like a totally different amp. The Tone Tubby Alnico Red works well, too.

IMO, 10 inch speakers have a mid articulation that is quite unique. Add enough of them and you’ve got the bottom of a nice 2x12 or more. I played a 6x10 custom stack for a short while and it was crazy how effortlessly it sounded great. I think stackable 2x10’ or 4x10 cabs are an untapped market. The Blackstar 4x8 also caught my interest but I never got to try one. Plus, there are so few options in that speaker size. I think the 10’s offer more selection for fine tuning. I wonder why a hybrid with a 1x12 or 2x12 with 2 or more 10’s hasn’t been tried. Maybe it has and I just don’t know about it. Maybe a 4x10 with a separate 1 or 2 x12 “sub” that handled 200hz or so and below with the 10’s rolled off likewise on the lows though. Could lead to serious thump with outstanding clarity.
