MXR Phasers

I’ve never played with a phaser before, I know what they do and have a general idea of what the different MXR variations are. Between the block Phase 90, script 90, EVH 90 and Phase 95 which is the best option? Leaning towards a more subtle script voicing but I’m not sure.

On paper the 95 seems like the logical choice but I wish it wasn’t in a mini enclosure. Any deficiencies with particular models I should be aware of?

I reflexively answered script before I fully read your post. I agree with 45 or 100 if you’re looking for more subtle

I hadn’t even considered the 100. Sounds like it’s more heavy handed and resonant than the 45 / script, might not be what I’m looking for as I’m leaning towards a more subtle vintage script tone. Can it do subtle? I will look into it, thanks.

Ignore all prior responses and get a Phase 95. If you don't know for sure which will be your long term solution, the little guy has a 45/90 switch and a block script switch. They are cheap and you can probably buy and sell used for little loss.

If you end up liking Script, there are two to consider. The CSP026 model is a more "authentic" version, but lacks the LED and a power jack. The CSP101 is a PCB script version with an LED and power jack.

If you want to lighten the wallet more, go Analogman. You can order the 026 Script with an LED and power jack, true bypass mod and some other options. A bit more spendy, but you will end up with a great pedal.

Not as versatile as the 45, that's for sure.

Actually I just got this last month, and it's my first ever phaser after three decades of playing guitar and at least 25 years buying pedals.

Tbh, never liked (digital models) phaser much, but bonded with the 100 immediately.

I forgot to mention, if you want the EVH thing, my understanding is his was modded to mix in a little less effect and add a little volume boost. AM has a mix knob and internal volume trim pot option that will allow you to dial it in.
