Multiple Guitars In Multiple Tunings

Anyone else doing this? It's a great reason to shop for my guitars.

I like to keep my guitars somewhat stable by keeping them in a single
tuning. Right now I have guitars tuned to the following:

E Standard
Drop D Standard
Eb Standard
Drop C# Standard
Drop A Standard
Drop C Standard
Bass in Drop D Standard
Bass VI in E Standard
Bass in Drop A Standard

If I am learning songs I usually have a guitar tuned to the tuning used in that song.
And it is fun when creating and coming up with parts to use a variety of different
guitars in different tunings for a variety of vibes/textures/feels

I want to get some more guitars set up in

Open G
Open E

and maybe something outside the box like

DADGAD

Anyone else into a variety of tunings, and leave specific guitars in those tunings?

I’ve gone back and forth, but nowadays, everything I own is set up in standard tuning. The only exceptions are my Tele that’s set up for slide in open G and my Cordoba Mini that’s tuned to A standard.

I’m still throwing around the idea of another 80’s shredder which will likely be tuned to Eb. I just haven’t decided which direction to go (likely Warmoth) and I’m still trying to stick to my “no new gear in 2025” mantra.

I typically keep them in a couple of tunings. Most bands I have gigged in around here have been a half step down so I will have a handful of guitars tuned that way to rotate through for gigs. I Keep some in standard and then one a full step down. I played in a band years ago that I needed 3 tunings and single coil as well as humbucker tones. I was lugging 5 guitars around to every gig. Most if not all of my guitars are in standard tuning right now.

Generally if I need a different tuning for a gig I’ll have a guitar for each tuning I need. No way I’m going to be changing tuning on a guitar in the middle of a show.

I’ve done shows for songwriters in the past where I’ve needed 5 guitars to handle all the tunings

I used to use the Virtual Capo in the Fractal to get to Eb. Just so much of what I like
to play is in that tuning, so I finally decided to get a guitar setup in Eb and stay there.

I keep one tuned to where the Phrygian Dominant scale lines up on the fretboard like the pentatonic scale.

Isn't this what a Whammy is for?

I'm thinking about making my Squier Thinline Tele setup for high action Open D, for slide (Dust My Broom by Elmore James being the inspiration). The baseball bat neck is uncomfortable for me to play.

These days I look for comfort specs for neck and body more than pickup output. No Tele or Les Paul slab for me!

Yep I especially have my Floyd rose guitars set up in different tunings, since they're such a pain in the ass to get set up right.
