Seems like Universal Audio will add usb midi functionality to UAFX pedals:

this will like double the value of my knuckles if I can CC all channel and knob settings from one DAW midi clip, holy shit u could actually rack drawer it in the loop and use it for more than one sound

I hope MIDI also allows access to all the hidden parameters, because that would give the pedals a fallback so 10+ years along the line when the mobile apps no longer work, UA login servers might be dead etc, you could still access those params on the pedals.

Still, why now 4 years after the launch of the first pedal series (Astra/Starlight/Golden) when the feature was immediately requested by users? Was this feature on the table the moment they got rid of Tore Mogenson?

Yeah usb editor, improved Bluetooth, and midi control over usb would be amazing.
Computer USB editor without login requirements is what I want to see. That way you would never have to worry about the UAFX pedals deep editing not being accessible.

Didn’t see that coming. Now add 3rd party IR support and I might buy one.
Add NAM support and I'll... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I get some users want the most amount of freedom possible, yet can get behind a company believing in the product enough to say "no, this is how I want it to be". Much like going to a fancy restaurant.

I mean, if the fancy restaurant wants to serve you food on a shovel or some sort of plastic bird's nest, then I'm going to question their decisions.

I find that with the UA amp sim plugins, I often like exactly one of the cabs on offer. That side is just way too limited IMO, and having user IR loading would be useful.

UA is a lot of "was there really a good reason to leave this out?" I find it hard to defend the lack of IR loading, or the lack of remote control features. Like they decided to make a multi-modulation pedal...with one preset.

...and some say you're hard to please...

What happens when none of the included IRs work for you? Then you have to use another device to load an IR. Why do they even allow their curated IRs to be disabled in the first place? They obviously knew some people were going to opt out of using them in some situations, but don’t provide any alternative other than buy an ox stomp, which gives you more options but still no user IR slots.

I think the OX Stomp is actually more acceptable for not having IR loading, because it provides a good amount of variety and adjustability in itself. The "zero adjustment, limited options" of the amp sim pedals and plugins is more reason for IR loading to be supported.

But correct me if I'm wrong, even the OX Stomp doesn't have all the same cabs as the pedals? Like, why?

But this is not what's happening, right?

If you want to pick whatever you want from an endless number of choices, get something with profile/capture/whatevernamethemanufacturerusesbutitsjustthesamething and IR's loading capabilities.

To me the UA approach is not that. I feel like I'm paying UA, and specifically a guy like James Santiago to go through all the BS and deliver me exactly what it promises, a great sounding Deluxe Reverb. One that sounds like it and feels like it and reacts to pedal like one also. That is what I'm paying for, and that's what IMO I'm getting. I'll grant that maybe somewhere in this endless sea of options there's something I might like better, but after going through this rabbit hole, the quality in the UA makes search for anything "better" just not worth it for me.

I can agree with that premise, I just don't agree with the choices they made for cabs and their micing. Which becomes a dilemma - what if I like only half of the rig? At least with e.g the Strymon Iridium for example I could correct the cab part with custom IRs.

Than that's it, you prefer something else. Nobody is saying you have to like it - and there's many other products that allow for the options you want.

I personally would prefer only two speaker/cab choices and maybe two mics on each and the ability to mix them, maybe some presets for the mic mixes. I think that would make it easier for me to narrow down something that worked better for me, but the ones there give me enough wiggle room.

Which kinda brings us to IR loading, or having a more versatile cab sim hidden within the app settings.

The one thing that has kept me from having much interest in these might be going away…

I say might because no details yet on what this actually means, but it sounds promising…
