I'm about three generations removed in terms of Marks that are supposed to be able to sound exactly like a MkIIc+. Will the real slim shady please stand up? Not to mention the four zillion higher-gain amps released by everyone else over the past 30-odd years. I don't know whether to be excited anymore. No help that I'll never get to hear one in person... Or maybe it is help, but I'll never know LOL.

When Mesa deviates; you get amps that get discontinued. See everything that isn't a Mark or Rectifier since forever. We did it to ourselves. I also don't want Mesa pulling a Rev and putting 10 tons of modern "features" that suck. "Oh look it's the CabClone/IR loader that never works!"

I think it will hold it's value Despite everyone that will ultimately yell at the person selling it for $7999 here in a year or two

For sure, at least for a while. I think people from 20/30 years ago who dreamed after them might get their chance to live out their dreams.

Whether they’ll be able to sell it on in 20/30 years time is way harder to say, but I can’t imagine the current generation will give a shit when they’re old enough to have money to burn.

Mesa knows what they’re doing limiting the numbers and keeping the mystique/hype alive. That’s the reason it’s desirable in the first place.

I somewhat agree. Though the two notes cab clone on the Badlander and the VII are really good. I also appreciate the onboard MIDI on the JP2C and the VII. Randall already said in one of his youtube videos he feels the ultimate IIC sound is on the VII, and it sounds great to my ears on mine, so who am I to argue?

I know we have had different experiences on our respective times with these amps. My CabClone worked once in a great while AT MOST (AKA see "If there's a problem, Yo I'll find it!" thread ). MIDI is a cool add on these amps; though my ultimate Mark started looking like it would be a III quite some time ago; with it's streamlined functionality that meets how my dumb brain wants these amps to work.

Heck when I watch/listen to clips of Marks; I am not near as excited as I am just thinking about the concept of owning one. Rectifiers continue to be my true tonal wheelhouse by quite a large margin. It doesn't mean I am not jonesing for one, however

Gotta agree with you there. Probably the first time I'm watching a Pete Thorn video and not liking the tones here. He's supposed to make everything sound good! Maybe it's the 7-string? Sounds like a Friedman B(loat)E(d)-100...

MIDI is a requirement for me with an amp. If an amp doesn’t have MIDI I have it set up with my MIDI Matrix. I refuse to tap dance when playing with other musicians or playing live, I need to be able to focus on the music.

Mesa/High Gain go together like- insert favorite.... you know what to do.

I believe it's that perception that keeps many prospective Mesa-converts, away. People who could easily get that, 'whatever color Fender amp tone they're after' tone, but they don't even give Mesa a shot. Nah, those amps are for metal heads.

And I wouldn't be at all surprised if it were that simple. But I'm just speculating. Thinking out loud. Doin the hippidty dippity bop.

I also wouldn't doubt there's a significant amount (what amt I have no idea), of missed sales, which could be why they're having to discontinue amp models.

You THINK? No fuckin doubt! People have already, just what I saw on Reverb, re-sold THREE JP's 10th anniversary Majesty for 3x's what they paid for, and that's only been since the album came out. It'll probably continue to rise for a bit longer. I don't doubt at all that amp will do similarly.

A pedal-platform 2x12ax7 programmable preamp with onboard power amp sim and IR loading should be their next step. The Friedman IR-X is an awesome piece of kit, as is the new Engl Powerball pedal. There’s no reason Mesa can’t make a follow-up to the Triaxis, it’s been 34 years since it released.

I struggle to get excited for a re-release of 40+ years old amps like Mesa and Marshall are currently doing.

Well, I wouldn't get too excited about next year either, then.

whats left to reissue? I wouldn't mind a III RI depending on price point but I also feel like congesting the mark line to that level would be self defeating. Tremoverb RI perhaps?


In fairness, I don't think we should realistically be expecting "the next gen super innovative amp" anytime soon anyway. The VII is only two years old, Marks tend to have at least a decade life cycle if not more....

Part of me being so down on amps lately is that Mesa is/was my favorite brand, and they're just bumming me out. I think if I ever did go back to amps, it'd be something else.

I’m listening to Pete’s video while I’m working and thinking “he pulled the bass knob with all that gain” and sure as shit, he has the bass knob pulled.

Marks aren’t super bassy amps, but if the goal is to push the bass, it HAS to be done at the GEQ post gain.

Every one of these videos use too much gain and too much pre-drive bass. I’m not sure how else to call it.
