Mesa Boogie Blue Angel

I played one over 20 years ago, for at least 2 hrs at a jam session. I remember it being a fun experience, but it wasn't the 4x10 version. Sorry, that's all I got. :grin

I had one (the 4x10 combo) in the early 2000s. Really cool clean amp. Heavy, can get really loud, and won't get much dirt without a pedal. It had a fullness to it - not a scooped clean. The power tube selector difference was fairly subtle, getting more pronounced as it got louder. I really liked it.

Cool amp. I played the 1x12 version ages ago at GC. Not super loud.

I had one in the 90’s, the 1x12. Very cool amp with great Fender to a smidgeon non top boost Vox’ish tones I want to say. Sounded great with Single coils especially.

4x10s. I rented a Traynor YCsomethingQsomethingV (apparently YCV80Q) for a couple months of rehearsals a long time ago because I'd just moved and had sold everything except my main guitar at the time and a Boss multifx. I got the 4x10 because it sort of fit the look/vibe of the band and the space was a lockout, so I wouldn't have to carry it. The amp was a modern Traynor so 'pedal platform' at best, but the semi-open-back 4x10 cleans sounded really, really good in that big open room, better than a 4x12. Punchy, clear, controlled, detailed. If I was ever in an unlimited-space situation I'd look for a 4x10 something just to see if that's a whole thing, or if it was just a particular room situation.

Anyway, I always told myself I'd try a Blue Angel (or a Heartbreaker) if one showed up locally but it's never happened.

The Heartbreaker was a fun amp for the short amount of time I tried. It was another cool jam session, with a Gibson ES-135, played it for a couple of hours and if I remember correctly was voiced a bit smoother, more in the tweed realm when pushed hard.

Thanks guys.

I have now bought and picked up (or rather hauled home) the amp mentioned in the OP.

So far I've only had the chance to give it a very quick test run on low to moderate volume. As expected, it's capable of really lovely cleans. Great reverb. Didn't get to push it hard (gain/volume) or boost/drive it with pedals yet.

I think it looks great given its age:

It's hard to capture the appearance and colour of the tolex - it's kind of black-blue-ish:

I absolutely believe I will enjoy this amp!

This amp looks GREAT! I'd love to hear how those 4x10s sound :love It's kind of sad that all these non-Rectifier/Mark amps kind of flew under the radar over the years and didn't get the love they might have otherwise deserved.

That is a gorgeous amp, nice score.

They ended up caught in the massive explosion of booteek boomer blooz amps and just had the wrong name on them and seemed too complicated, and a lot of the bonus features versus a purist amp weren't that great. Until like 2016 Mesa couldn't make an fx loop, the reverbs were always Just OK, and there was always some weird shit with the channel switching.
