The Meris Enzo X showed up today.
Just got done spending a few hours with it. Got a lot to learn still but it's up and running with latest firmware and connected stereo into fractal fm9 and got the editor going as well.
Running through the presets and this machine is definitely giving off a sci-fi / cosmic synth vibe.
However I definitely get why some people feel like the tracking isn't the best but still very usable and definitely gets better if you add a compressor in front. I was getting the same feeling a little bit off and on and believe me I have played tons of different guitar synth devices from most of the ehx synth boxes, the c4 mono synth, the mono panda audio future impact pedals, line 6 helix and fractal audio mono synths, meris enzo original, the eventide h90 polysynth and mono synth, the mooer polysynth and mono synth in ge-300, the boss sy-300, boss sy-1, and then stuff with gk pickups like boss sy-1000, boss gm-800, roland gr-55, roland vg-99, roland gr-33 etc.. etc..
I really think it could benefit with a little faster tracking. Some sort of sensitivity thing or something that gives off a immediate sensation when playing. Sometimes I felt disconnected from the device if that makes sense. Sometimes I felt like I had to hit harder to trigger, or sometimes it wouldn't trigger etc. You definitely cannot play super fast on this no matter how good you are at muting the extra unwanted strings and I'm pretty dang good with the way I play over the top of the guitar neck. I also felt a little frustration when trying to use my guitar volume knob with the enzo x. Lowering the volume knob on guitar pretty much made triggering worse. I don't recall this happening on other devices and hopefully Meris can fix this sometime.
What I think this excels at mostly is experimental, cosmic, sci-fi, futuristic and ambient pads type things more then anything and I love it for that!
I wish for a blender / randomizer option in the editor though like the boss sy-300 has. That would be amazing and I think would help a lot of people dig into the enzo x more. Even better if we had both options.
Blender would take any 3 preset and blend the guts of each one together to make something new.
Randomizer would take each option and randomize the settings each time. Even better if we had a matrix to choose which things we'd like to randomize etc.
Overall, this is just my super early impression. I am sure things will change the more time I put into it and some may still stay the same, but we'll see as time goes on! :) Also I only tried it with one guitar so far. A PRS SE Studio Standard. I have other guitars I'll try it with and maybe my opinion on tracking and stuff will change due to different pickup output etc.
Also made my first preset for it! A cosmic, sci-fi synth sound. Perfect for that outer space and sci-fi film vibes!
