Looks like the Rockman is back

That was the genius of the sound. It sounded great and huge on car stereos and radios (I’m talking small mono ones). Listening devices have improved since then.

Thing is that midrange can also cut through with a band, especially if there’s more than one guitar or other instruments. I’ve seen a lot of guitarists (including myself) get lost in the mix because of eq. For the pedal, I’m most interested in the clean as a one step clean/comp/chorus because it cuts really well with a band.

This is true.

Seems a lot of guitar players today forget that the electric guitar is actually a midrange instrument in the grand scheme.

As well, due to Fletcher-Munson curve, the midrange is the frequency area the human ear hears easiest.

But Boston for me is just a big midrangey grossness.

Fwiw, I love mids. But if there ever was a cocked wah kinda sound (without the balls an actual wah might provide) that I despise, it's not coming from any Boss units but from Rockman.
Having said that, I'm sure the GT amps are decent contenders to rebuild that sound...

It's definitely a sound you either like or don't. I'll end up with one of these for sure. The harmony guitars Pete demonstrated is one of its strong points, it's just a very vocal tone that cuts through in a mix. I used the Sustainor that way in the studio years ago, with very little tweaking in post.

Yup. Me, too. This is an ask no questions Insta-Buy for me. :banana

Seriously, no problem from my end.

IF, and that is a big IF, because, I could EASILY see me saying "meh", and saving that money for something else, but IF I were to buy one, I'd plug it in, play my Boston/Rush/Def Leppard licks, along with some original stuff I wrote IN the 80's, and that would be it for a long while. I'd throw it in a drawer and probably wouldn't touch it again for 6 months.

It's the unobtanium for me. I had an X100 that I think I paid like, $130.00 for it, and you can't get them for that anymore, and I'm sure the old ones are a lot more fragile than this new pedal, so, it's nice to have a choice to have one again, and not pay through the nose for something that's plastic and 40 years old.

Great post!

:cheers

I will say, half of the magic of the OG was using it with headphones, so, knowing the MXR doesn't have a headphone jack nor echo, like the original X100, that's a bit of a hard sell.

I really didn't have any interest in this pedal when I saw the announcement. I really had no interest when I saw the price of it. Unfortunately, I may be in trouble. It caught my attention today and damn if R.J. didn't do a freaking great demo of it. I put a few of them in my watch list on Reverb to see what the offers look like on them. I really do not need this... I will try to keep telling myself that.
