I have to agree with the disgusted people. But if you have a chili-mayo dip on the side to dunk your fries in...now we're talking!

Admittedly as kid, I used to dip my potato chips (especially ruffles) in straight up mayo. Not sure what I was thinking.
I would never do that today.

Another mayo treat I loved as a kid --- banana sandwich with mayo spread. yes.
It's actually very good. I grew up in the FL panhandle but not sure it was a local thing or just something my mom invented.

Colorado has some sort of reputation for putting green chili on everything, and to an extent, sure theres a lot of green chili here, and I do like some of it in the right context. But I feel like its become an inflated social media meme/self fulfilling prophecy at this point. new restaurants play into that reputation, and since hardly anyone in Colorado was born here these days they think that is the correct colorado way and it's just become a dumb ouroboros of green chili bullshit on any food you can think of

I don’t know… my family has been in Colorado since the 1870’s. And they put green chili on everything

Haha, I think we have roots back to the 1880s here in canon city, but I seem to be the only person in my immediate family that's even mildly into green chili so maybe I just notice it more these days, since I didn't eat that much of it growing up lol

Don't know if this is a specific local oddity to anywhere, but an old boss of mine turned me on to putting bacon and feta in guacamole. Total game changer, its hard to go back to no feta in guac

Another local food oddity is ketchup on hotdogs. These maniacs need to be locked up!

That depends entirely on the dog itself. Oscar Mayer weiners are fine with ketchup, Nathan’s are a no go.

When I lived in WV, there was a guy with a cart outside of a Lowes, purportedly from NYC that sold Coney dogs - but I can't remember what was different about them. Just remember relish?

i guess you might have to say detroit coneys lol, maybe nyc and other places have them too, i dunno.

hot dog, chili (meat only, no beans), diced onion, yellow mustard. damn good.

Provel is some kind of engineered goo that they put on pizza there, hence St. Louis pizza is the worst pizza in North America.

My theory about St Louis pizza is someone from the Midwest went to NYC and had pizza for the first time, when they got back home they tried to replicate it as best they could remember with ingredients they found in their pantry.


Either that or it came out of an episode of Chopped:
