Live Music: As If It Weren't Already Challenging Enough

Here's some info about challenges for Live Music on the Consumer side.

There's exactly one single reason for tickets to be as expensive as they are: Greed!
And for me as a consumer, it doesn't matter who is the greediest person on the other side, whether it's the artist, Live Nation along with Ticketmaster or scalpers.
All this could easily be changed if the artists (or rather their management) wanted. For example, over here there's one very popular Band ("Die Ärzte") and they're only selling personalized tickets through their own website, plus reselling in general isn't allowed. Pretty much zero scalping happening, the german version of Ticketmaster ("Eventim") left out, just great.
Obviously that's not common - and I'm afraid most artists welcome the situation because the higher the final prices (regardless whether it's because of resellers and scalpers), the higher they can go with their base prices. Which they do, even as if there's no tomorrow.

I'm making more live than I ever have in my life but I also have a professional day gig so I don't reply on gig $ to pay any bills, but when I save it it is a nice addition to my savings!
Playing in a band that appeals to a wide range of folks with a killer singer helps. Tomorrow we play a country club where they hand us a menu for dinner and say 'anything you want' on top of 250$ each plus tips! Not bad for a weekday gig :beer

I know the context here is touring and the costs but for a side hustle I'm pretty stoked. A couple of years ago I'd be lucky to make a C note and Maybe a burger -typically not.

We're losing Dopapod to this which is a tragedy

Umphrey's Mcgee is down from 3 nights at red rocks every year to just 1. They announced their new years run here doing 4 nights at 1k cap venues, which is the smallest places they've played since I started seeing them in 2015. Doesn't help that since covid, a single night at red rocks costs about as much as a 3 day pass used to.

You know its bad when even the jam scene is being impacted like this
