Line 6 Metallurgy

I like sliders a lot, and plenty of popular (and also trendy) plugins use slider-based interfaces and avoid skeuomorphic approaches. Something like Valhalla Room is a cool and time-tested example of this, even though it uses a combo of sliders and dials.

imo with Helix Native / HX Edit, the issue is more that it’s a bunch of tightly spaced, super skinny sliders that stretch halfway across the window with tiny labels on one end. It’s not that they’re sliders, or that they’re hard to understand—it’s that they’re sliders that are a pain to use and parse to an extent that a lot of users who love Helix don’t want to even use it, and in a way where it immediately feels daunting to users who don’t know Helix yet.

I don’t think sliders need to be dropped or that it needs to look like an actual amp or something; I think there are a lot of different approaches to improving it without doing either of those things.

No idea why anyone would buy Metallurgy anyway, instead of waiting for a Helix Native sale.
Because UI.
Personally I refuse to use a plugin with mediocre UI - not saying that the Helix Native is bad but it certainly is dated and perhaps not the most appealing (to my eyes at least). The only sliders I accept are on my physical MXR-10 clone.

I bought it (while owning Native) because it has a standalone .exe.

Same reason I also bought some ML Sound Lab sims: Fire it up and be playing in 10 seconds. With Native I have to run Reaper, click on a premade template for this case, wait for it to load, wait 5 seconds for that "Reaper is not free - day 4286" thing to go away. That's just not sexy.

I told my wife the other day: You can sell me most probably ANYTHING if you make it slick and sexy. Boot up the PC, doubleclick on an icon and be playing in 5 seconds? I get a hard-on.

I do the same thing with Cantabile and Native. Interface on, double click, play. Also, just fucking pay for Reaper ya mooch.

I messed around with standalone exes and cantabile for a while. In the end reaper takes 5 seconds to open and another 5 to 10 seconds to open any plug-in and do mixing and matching, it was just always the quicker way to get up and running for me.

If you’re using multiple plugins it might be faster, but in comparison to a “standalone” Cantabile and Native is just a fast.
