Trying to decide if I want to trade my Misha So Cal for an KSR Ares 50 plus about $400. Anyone play an Ares before?

I have the Ares. Picky amp for sure. It can sound amazing but I find myself sometimes chasing the tone that I've had in the past from it.
I have no idea how much truth there is to this or if I am just talking out my a$$.

There is this new wave of modern high gainers. KSR. Mezzabara. Red Seven. WTFever else that just look like "why didn't you just buy a Recto/5150/SLO" to me. I'm sure I am talking out of my a$$ :bag :rofl

Nah I think there is some merit to it! Thanks @Deadpan I think I'm going to hold for now

KSR IMO is a Mesa Recto meets Mark IV

Mezzabarba IMO is a SLO meets Vox

Red Seven, don't have one. But I imagine not too far off of KSR.

How does an SLO/Vox blend even work? o_O Does Monomyth belong in this discussion as well?
The Mezzabarba is 3 channel with the first being nothing like a SLO channel 1 or crunch. The tone is a bit glassy and the drive seems to come from the power section. This trait is then carried on to the other channels but with more preamp gain.

The Monomyth is the ideal modded Marshall IMO. Needs no boost or EQ. I have the perfect Tonex capture of it. Wish IK had some copy protection. For now I am focusing on the QC as it provides at least some.

I will mention the Wizard also, many say it's like a Marshall but IME it is more of a Hi Watt variation. I had the thunder mod copied from the Monomyth to it and it's now my favorite amp. The tech says it's a basic depth circuit. We added a variable negative feedback also.

Have you tried that high gain HiWatt that was making the demo rounds years ago? Jason Frankhouser dude had a KILLER demo of that one!

I did try the Super Hi 50 at NAMM. They set it up for me in a private room. Much like the Wizard actually but I prefer the clarity on the Wizard.

Red Seven is inspired from Bogner

The main Wizard the Modern Classic ?
That’s very close to a boosted Jubilee w very high plate voltages

The Wizards come with a few different OTs which reportedly make the amp sound different.

I have both a Slivler Jubilee and a Modern Classic with C transformers. They are quite different. The Wizard is more open and clear in the high end with depth in the lows like a HiWatt.

I do like the Jubilee a lot but for different reasons.
